Hello
Here is a map i have created to test multiple way to use efficient "bus system".
Of course, with this system, a breakdown train in the middle of the "bus" don't disturb the traffic.

why don't you have a rail which goes around your map? okay, probably you can run a train in this map that goes from South->East->North->West and back to South....

PNG should not be bigger if it's PNG-8, which is more then enough. Just use the ingame screenshot feature (set to PNG).

unfortunately i can't do that at this pc. I'm not allowed to install anything here, so i run OTTD from CD. RThe only way to get screenshots is with the 'print'-button ;-), merge that into win-paint, and convert with microsoft-photo-editor .....

If you look at the pictures, it is only the tracks that are independent, but stations are heavily shared, so it's not like the AI's 'A to B for every train' kind of network.
Good point I guess.

I would have said "That's not very challenging" but I never made the first comment in the first place :)

?? You're running OTTD, right? OpenTTD can save screenshots directly to PNG. I am sure you have at least a few MB's on the HD or your home folder to put things. Just copy OTTD there or whereever you save your print-screened image and you're set.

that could be your problem. sounds like windows 98.

if you use paint in XP it should save as gif and auto apply an apropriate pallete, you can then save as png-8.(in older windows it will apply a windows pallete, and screw the image up.)

if its windows 98, i have a little dos based exe that you can run for just about any location, that can convert from just about any image format to just about any other image format. you can use this to convert to PNG-8. if you want i can send it to you. it doesn't work under 2000/XP though.

I'd have to remember to dig it up and bring it with me.

i can't do it now, i'm at work, and its on a zip disk, aswell as many of my win98se hard drives, at home.

its actually a MS-DOS picture viewer, but it does have the ability to convert. i used to use it to make icons, and convert to amiga iff files to transdisk to my amiga before i got PSP.

Looks great, but I would remove the left track coming from the upperside, which crosses the track coming from the left. It's hard to explain in english :P

Alrighty: you've got 2 tracks coming from the upperside.
2 tracks coming from the left side.
Both tracks from the upper side connect to both tracks from the left. If you would remove the track that connects the left track that comes from the upperside with the lower track that comes from the left side, you'll get the same result as you have now, but neater :)

CasB: Neater, in that there would be less track on the ground. Downside is, your design would be slower as there would be more turns for the train to make if it came fromthe upper left track to the lower platform.

Additionally, this track could be upgraded to PBS, and is more likely to benefit if there are more tracks available (eg., two trains come from the upper track to the station, with the right-hand train slightly ahead).
