Re: [OTTD] PJ1K (UKRS) - Public Alpha (pa 0.3) 31/10/2009

Post by Comm Cody »

Pikka..... I have been sitting here and playing with UKRS. While playing i wanted to make a few push pull services. (Like the WSMR Railway.) But I realized that they were never made for UKRS. Is there any plans for DSBO, DVT, OR a PCV In PJ1K?

Several UKRS vehicles have push-pull operation. The smaller steamers can have a brake van on the back, and at least one of the loco's (class 91) can use a mail van as a DVT.

I'd presume that at least those will be available in PJ1K, if not more.

Edit: see below - next time I'll check whether Pikka is online before I answer for him :-)

The shunting brake van may or may not be included, it isn't yet. DVTs and DBSOs will definitely be included, and there's already a push-pull autotrain available for the pannier tank (use clerestory coaches).

Just a question. Why are you going to exclude some engines, such as the Diesel EE10000. I'm asking about this one because i especially like it. Is there any reason to limit the engine number (I start from the idea, more avalaible engines is always nicer) ?

It's not a critic, it's a real question.

Anyway, thank you for your work, i really like it.

I think its cause there where only 2 EE 10000's used, and there other because of similar reasons, though I do like having variety and love to have a lot to pick from
I do wish the Eurostar would be kept in

If I can put a request in:

Can I ask that the UKRS/PJ1K have higher capacities, either by default or through a parameter? I've been playing a lot of cargod*st lately, and the small trains just can't keep up with the trunk routes etc without putting huge trains on - which isn't very UK-like. It would just give those of us who want to use realistic networks the ability to keep using PJ1K without ruining the look and feel.

Ideally a parameter to double or triple the capacities would be fantastic, if it's not too much work to implement.

The capacities in PJ1K aren't significantly less than the default vehicles. Perhaps you need more trains, longer trains, different networking, or smaller cities.

That's my point :-) I could easily run 10x as many cars, each of which is 7x as long, but it ruins the effect. In a normal game the UKRS holds up fine, but with cargodist the trunk lines end up with huge numbers of passengers very quickly. The only way to deal with it would be with massive trains or very frequently.

Longer trains would indeed solve the problem, but it would ruin my nice short stations and the fact I like to run my MUs in a realistic way - ie 2 car sprinters rather than 14 cars. That's why I asked for it to be perhaps included as a switch, just so that people who prefer to use more realistic train lengths can do so.

I can fully understand if this is something you don't want to implement, it was just a request. I know that the UKRS is a set a lot of "realism" players like to use, myslf included, but it does make life difficult on a cargodist game without the high capacity mainline stock.

It would be a nice feature, is all :-)

That would interest me too. Indeed, a simple way to deal with the increased number of passenger using cargodist, could be using trainsets with increased cargo capacities. Eventually, cargo prices could be increased proportionally. Anyway, I associate myself with this request :)

OpenTTD already has more passengers than TTD did. I think this comes down to the same thing as "aircraft balancing"; the right place to address ridiculous passenger numbers is in code or in town building grfs, not in vehicle grfs.

I wonder how Cargodist goes with TaI UK houses? :)

Most high passenger numbers are caused by the town set. TTRS for example generates tons of passengers and your lines get clogged very easily when towns get somewhat bigger.

Does TTRS generate lots of passengers on purpose?

Hullo,

This is looking good, but I'm just wondering, with the removal of the Eurostar & Pendolino, what will be the model to use for express passengers? In the UK as it is, SouthWest Trains and Southern (and probably others) use 321 EMU (I believe), but north of London, particularly in the EastMidlands and going up to Scotland, Pendolinos are used (like the Virgin ones). What will take the place of the Pendolinos for this kind of express service?

It's called the Hitachi A-Train in PJ1K, introduced 2010. There's also still the Class 91 as an earlier 140mph loco.

Any chance you will include some kind of futuristic trains (based on i.e. Shinkansen trains or the latest chinese bullet-train)? Or you already did? :)

Sorry for the bump, I'm just wondering how development is going on the project and weather or not I can persuade you to put up another beta?
