I've found the cause of my problem at last. It's unbelievable.

When I install a new instance of OTTD, I always remove the zillion language files from the lang directory. I've always thought I wouldn't need them. After all I can't speak Afrikaans or Hebrew. I just keep English and Hungarian, that's enough for me. Now that I desperately wanted to find some solution, I've installed all the language files again. Tada! Game started, everything's fine.

Good to hear that you've figured it out!

This removal of language files issue has come across a while ago, EDIT: here: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=963619#p963619
Seems the fix didn't fix it entirely. Or was un-fixed since.

Un-fixed obviously, because 0.6.4 works without the language files, 0.7.0 doesn't.

I had similar problems with ECS a while ago, where it would crash OpenTTD because I didn't have all the language files...

What causes the dependency on language files in a newgrf? Are those files really needed to play the game aside from your own language (or one you can understand)?

The dependency is gender/plural definitions for a language. A NewGRF can assume those for a certain language, but they are undefined if the language file is missing, resulting in the NewGRF not working.

I'm not sure why it is actually necessary to have that dependency for a language that isn't used, but there surely is a reason.

I'm wondering what the intended behaviour is of the ground tiles in the forest industry on an arctic map. Attached an example of the ground tiles on FIRS 070 in OpenTTD 120 b2. The slopes and ground tiles seem to miss intermediate steps.
Furthermore but this is a suggestion to make this set look even more awesome. Give trees the same amount of snow coverage as the slopes going up a level having of "the same height". Now there's one tree without snow and the other having snow on it, on one tile.

edit: Forgot to add screenshots.

There is no reason, it was a bug. Fixed in r23788.

@smile64: Could you retry with the next nightly (will be complete in about two hours from this post). Please also test with your language files deleted to see if it works correctly.

Thanks for the fix!

And to me, an oversight that resulted in a bug is also a reason. And a good one as well :)

I have a paper mill thats getting plenty of wood, and the occasional chemicals but doesn't seem to be producing anything. OTTD 1.2.0 beta 1

Your screenshot is misleading. The station details shown are from a totally different station where train 60 is at.

Are you sure Nuenen Woods is accepting the proper cargo?

I couldn't find all grfs in the save game, so I'll take a best guess from the screen shot.

I'm guessing you're dropping wood at Duurkenakker Woods. Train 60 at Nuenen Woods is waiting for the goods produced at the paper mill.

But if you carefully, there's also an iron works next to Duurkenakker Woods, which probably is taking all the woods unloaded there, since that industry is much closer to that station's label. I don't know why the paper mill produce nothing when chemicals is unloaded there though.

Thanks guys

I didn't know it was the proximity of the label to the industry that determines where the cargo goes. As the station touches the paper mill and not the iron works I thought the station was closer to the mill.

Time to re-draw the station left to right

(edit)

Works lovely now :)

I've just downloaded the current nightly (r23794) and removed the language files. Now it's working. Thanks!

Can someone explain the recycling depot to me? I'm delivering engineering supplies to it, but the station I built doesn't accept them for some reason. Also, it isn't making any recyclables.

Production of recycling depot is supposed to depend on town population.
Might well be a bug. We'll look into it.

Hi,

From repeated use of the random map generator, I do get the impression the industry placement is seriously skewed. This is most obvious with the Fishing grounds, on 512*512 map all of them are place in mostly two clusters leaving 3/4 of the ocean empty. Similarly the Dairy Farms and sheep farms also seems clustered.

As this doesn't seem to happen with ECS or the normal industry, I thought this might be an issue of FIRS. Or is that the intended behavior?

That's the intended behaviour.

If you find a good region for farming, you usually have more than one farm. Similar with fishing grounds.

Was a bug. Fixed, will be in the 0.7.1 release (can't give any release date though).
