Re: Industrial Stations Renewal (v 0.7.1 available!)
But wasn't 0.7.0 compatible with TTDPatch 2.5b9? 0.7.1 isn't

Thank god for TTDX

Really, o i didn't know that, surely v0.7.1 should be compatible with all past versions of ttdpatch, but i don't know much about that so you will have to wait for someone to reply who knows.

ISR utilises features that aren't in TTDP 2.5beta 9 therefore ISR is not compatible with all versions of TTDP, Beardie.
Re: Industrial Stations Renewal (v 0.7.1 available!)
TTDP 2.5 beta 9 is outdated. AFAIK, most TTDP users user the nightlies, though I stand to be corrected on that one.

EDIT: Sorry about the link, the file on that post is V0.7.1, it had been updated by mart3p, if you want V0.7.0 you going to have to contact mart3p.

Sure, but I like my 2.5b9Gremnon wrote:TTDP 2.5 beta 9 is outdated. AFAIK, most TTDP users user the nightlies, though I stand to be corrected on that one.

My problem is: I installed ISR 0.7.1 via TTDXConfigurator (didn't realise it requires a later patch version than my 2.5b9) - that overwrote the already installed (and working) version. Now I'm searching for that older version of "Indutrial Stations Renewal" that works with 2.5b9. Where can I find it?
Thanks in advance

Thank god for TTDX

Why ?azett wrote:Sure, but I like my 2.5b9![]()
The latest patch is in principle exactly the same as 2.5b9 , there are only more options and less bugs.

Those extra options you can turn off to get the same as in 2.5b9.

Well, I always download my grf's to a backup location first and install them to my game from their. Maybe you should do that to...azett wrote:Sure, but I like my 2.5b9Gremnon wrote:TTDP 2.5 beta 9 is outdated. >Smaug: Thanks for posting v0.7.0, but I would appreciate it if you could remove it from your post, now that azett has had the opportunity to download it. I am concerned that people are downloading v0.7.0 thinking it is the latest version.
Anyone who has downloaded v0.7.0 should be aware that it has a number of bugs which have been fixed in v0.7.1. Also, although v0.7.0 will load in TTDPatch 2.5 beta, it is not really compatible with it. The reason for this is the use of station variable 68, which is not supported by TTDPatch 2.5 beta. This means most of the new stations that were added to v0.7.0 will not work correctly. It also means the switchyard doesn't work and there are a few other issues with the road junctions.
I would suggest that if anyone wants to use TTDPatch 2.5 beta rather than 2.6 alpha, they would be better off using ISR v0.6.3 which is still available for download here.

Re: Industrial Stations Renewal (v 0.7.1 available!)
Andy, your license ("OpenTTD and TTDPatch only") isn't compatible with the GPL under which the games, and this station set, are both released. The GPL allows all components to be used in any other works released under that license, even for commercial purposes.andythenorth wrote:FYI, I'm posting finished sprites, including my ISR contributions, on my site tt-foundry.com
To use your graphics as is in the ISR or the game itself, either the license of the graphics set / game would need to be changed to reflect your additional restrictions (including the good taste one; GPL doesn't care about taste) or you'll have to change your license terms.

Re: Industrial Stations Renewal (v 0.7.1 available!)
OK, so I've been and read the GPL FAQs and guidance. I'll change the license on my site, but I'm not sure what I'll change it to yet.Brianetta wrote:Andy, your license ("OpenTTD and TTDPatch only") isn't compatible with the GPL under which the games, and this station set, are both released. If I've understood the GPL correctly then the following applies:
- the sprites compiled into the ISR set are covered by GPL. Therefore anyone is free to re-use those sprites in any context that complies with GPL. That's fine.
- As the copyright holder, there's nothing to stop me using any license I choose for sprites I release through my site. Their inclusion in a project under GPL does not automatically apply the GPL to my original work (this looks similar to the misleading 'capture of IP' legal issues with GPL in recent years). However any license I try and impose is simply rendered redundant by the availability of the same sprites elsewhere under GPL. Is this a correct reading?
- separate issue: To comply with the GPL someone (mart3p?) is required to make the source code for ISR available along with the binary. What constitutes GPL-compliant release of the 'source code' for sprites? Is a png sufficient, given that the sprites are created in layered photoshop files?
My main concern here is not to have a legalistic debate of the finer points of GPL - I'm just trying to avoid making it legal for a third party to download the sprites from my site and sell them as a stock icon set (icon sets of diggers etc are surprisingly common on icon sites). Realistically I can't stop that and wouldn't bother, so maybe it's just easier to stick all the work under the GPL.
Anyone got thoughts on this?
cheers,
Andy

Anyone requiring the ISR source code can of course contact me and I will supply it.
I would have thought that the pcx files used to compile ISR would be sufficient. In the case of the code, I have a number of spread sheets, test grfs, and layered Paint Shop Pro files etc. that I have used in writing the source code. I don’t believe it is necessary to supply these to comply with GPL.andythenorth wrote:What constitutes GPL-compliant release of the 'source code' for sprites? You're only violating the GPL, if when asked, you don't provide the source. Doesn't mean that he has to put it in a clearly visible public place at all times

By the way, any chance the direction of the facillities mentioned here will be changed somewhere in the future? I mean is it still on your todo list? I don't mean to rush you, just wanted to know.

Thanks.Smaug wrote:Ok, understood. I removed the file.

Yes, it's on my todo list for v0.8.0. I didn't want to change it for v0.7.1 as it breaks savegame compatibility. It would not be possible to overbuild the facilities buildings on slopes, if the directions were changed.Smaug wrote:By the way, any chance the direction of the facillities mentioned here will be changed somewhere in the future? Re: Industrial Stations Renewal (v 0.7.1 available!)
This is largely correct, but it's never redundant to have other licensing options. If there was some project that wouldn't change to a free software license (a commercial game, perhaps) you remain able to license it to that project. You can even charge a fee. They can't use it without obeying some license, and they might not legally be able to use it under the GPL.andythenorth wrote:- As the copyright holder, there's nothing to stop me using any license I choose for sprites I release through my site. Got Smaug's 0.7.0 and the 0.6.3 from mart3p's link, thanks a lot to both of you.
Got to take some time to try the nightlies...but I need to have that time first
It's installed and it works fineRob wrote:Why ?azett wrote:Sure, but I like my 2.5b9![]()

Re: Industrial Stations Renewal (v 0.7.1 available!)
Maybe you guys should consider a Creative Commons license. With such a license you don't have to distrubute/supply source files and you can prohibit commercial use, while still allowing others to use (parts of) your work for other purposes.
CC is far more 'easier' for the author of a grf. You don't have to keep track of older versions of you source files etc.

ISR is using many sprites from the original industrial stations set (jcindsta[w].grf) which was released under a GPL licence, therefore we had to release ISR under GPL.
Keeping track of old source file versions is no problem as it is using git revision control.FooBar wrote:CC is far more 'easier' for the author of a grf. You don't have to keep track of older versions of you source files etc.
