Chrill and Jamie's Multiplayer Extravaganza

Post by JamieLei »

So at the TT-F meet, we all agreed tonight to play a BIG GAME. And noone else wanted to.

So me and Chrilly played a game of our own. The rules? Passenger Destinations and Infra Sharing and Timetabling. All passengers, they can transfer between companies and can choose a mix of companies to reach their destinations.

We want to go to bed, but here's a brief overview of what we've done so far.

I ran both local and express trains on my network. This setup allows them to overtake easily.

We competed for Crewe. Originally, Chrill got there first and ran his trains profitably there. He also operated the bus network. A few years later, I arrived and stuck my line into the east end, and linked my station into the bus network. Since my line went to more places where the passengers went, I stole a lot of his passengers and his line quickly became unprofitable. In later years, he made the line profitable again by connecting Crewe direct to towns on his network, rather than to the same town that I was running to.

A town near to Crewe. Due to the intense competition, Chrill started to connect towns nearby direct to his network without having to go through Crewe, building his one-platform station there which was profitable. To compete, I built a commuter rail line underneath the city, which you can see.

Chorley was the first connecting point between our networks. There's a super-frequent bus service between our stations, instead of having a joint station. It also allowed me to build a much better located station for onward connections and fast access in and out, even if it didn't actually serve Chorley very well.

For those who are interested, this is our network, compete with the capacity graphs. White is the actual capacity, while red is the planned traffic being sent down the route. A red box that's bigger than a white box means that the route is overloaded, as some of my express routes are. Note Chrill's profitable direct route to Dawley in the bottom of the map, which was tagged on at last minute. Before then, passengers had to travel via Crewe and many of them fed nicely onto my network.

In case you were wondering, the operating profit graph. Yellow is me, Purple is Chrill. I keep telling him, he needs to be aggressive and attack my area with competing services!

He's probably not used to private rail transport.

I also wonder why you didn't connect so many cities to the network until 2007.

I have, but can't get it to work on my Mac. Curiously it gives me a 'not compatible with this build' error.

Are you sure. Just to check, you should have got this file: openttd-chillpp-hfe846ddd-macosx-universal.zip . If that doesn't work, you might have to build the code and apply the patch. Easier said than done...

I'd love to but I'm back in Cambridge now, and have no time to play TTD! Also I think the ports are blocked on the uni network. Otherwise I would do it for an hour a week or so.

You can configure the ports being used... If you configure the server to use a common port like 22 or 80 or similar it might even work in the presence of port blockers.

Hmmm not a bad idea... - but I have no time this term so I'd rather not. I'm barely posting on the forums any more!

Well, we're back. I don't have any pictures of maps, instead I give you a silly solution to a rivalry.

I am red, Jamie is yellow. I got to Santa Ana first, see the through station. Jamie then approached Santa Ana from a different angle and I built a 2-platform section (since upgraded to 3 platforms) for him. I then figured I had to rival him and constructed my station in Montevideo. Once that part was done, I could not figure out how to plug it to Santa Ana. That resulted in this...
