Can they run on 3rd rail as well? Like the GVB's CAF series and the BN series.

Ah great! Now finally the NS gets rid of the ugliest trains of the network! The most hated 'CityPendels'. This looks much better.

Holy hell that is ugly. Your premier train service and you get something that hideous!?
Who makes them and how fast do they go?

Re: General Dutch and Belgium Transport Talk
Wow...the final thing actually does look like that. I hoped the model they showed untill now was just a prototype. On the other hand, the unique shape makes it still somewhat nice.
The best thing is, these first test were planned for april 2006...

Re: General Dutch and Belgium Transport Talk
Damn thing was designed by Pininfarina... They should stick to cars and chairs in the future! Ah well, at least it's something unique again, in between the boring Nohab's and Traxx's.

Re: General Dutch and Belgium Transport Talk
It would have been fine if it had a straight nose in line with the slope of the windscreen, it's that hideous growth out the front that looks glued on for a joke is silly! Not to mention the colour scheme...

Re: General Dutch and Belgium Transport Talk
IIRC the bulge on the nose is to limit the air pressure difference when entering a tunnel or passing another train in a tunnel. This because a large part of the High Speed Line in the Netherlands is in a tunnel. An almost similar shape has been applied to the Japanese 700 and E4 series Shinkansen with the same reason. I could be wrong (again)

Blaargh! That ugly and not even capable of reaching 300 Kilometers an hour.
And I tought the Modernized SGM-II would get an extra middle wagon?! Weird.
Does someone know when the new SGM's will be in use?

Re: General Dutch and Belgium Transport Talk
The Shinkansen manage to pull off the bulge with so much more finesse. I think it is because they don't have the coupling sticking out all the time.
Re: General Dutch and Belgium Transport Talk
Ahhhh, thats ugly, that nose is just hidious. I realy hoped to get some more ICE3's on the dutch tracks in stead of these monsters.
About SGM II, it just looks wrong this way, like it is missing something
Just saw the SLT in real life today for the first time, and i realy liked it
, doesnt look that bad

Re: General Dutch and Belgium Transport Talk
Wow, that's pretty ugly, but it has something as well. It reminded me of the Shinkansen trains too, though this one's uglier, probably because of those tiny lights and the sticking-out coupling. What lines are they supposed to travel on? I totally missed this project, I had no idea there was anything like this planned in Holland until I saw Purno's signature and asked about it. That's what happens when you don't read Dutch newspapers anymore.
Ugly, but unique, therefore I kind of like it. Though they could have done a lot better.
