Impossible features [READ FIRST POST BEFORE SUGGESTING]

  • • Impossible to add new features to the game via the patch. It's only possible to change existing game elements
    • Impossible to change internal values set by bits
    • Underground stations/track/signals
    • Stations bigger than (14x14) + 1 (internal 15x15 is possible, but no GUI for it exists)
    • More depots/stations/signs (the coded limit is 256 (0-255) but some properties count double)
    • Adding more than 12 cargo types
    • Road vehicle bays larger then their current size
    • Larger docks
    • More runways/gates on airports (this one is too much work)
    • Bigger land (again, the coded limit is 256)
    • Diagonal tracks not sharing the same tile
    • Presignals seperated by type of track
    • Signals on and under bridges, currently there is no idea how to make them work
    • Signals in tunnels, the same, some ideas about it exists but none of them work
    • Diagonal bridges
    • Trams/highways/narrow gauge (only at the cost of sacrificing another means of transport)
    • Enhance AI gameplay
    • Screen resolutions
    • Screen rotation
    • Multiple points of view in the game
    • Better graphics (maximum quality is 8-bit)
    • Starting year before 1921

Zetor, if you have a question about an impossible feature I rather receive it by PM or create a new topic about it. Otherwise I forsee that this topic will become just another discussion topic instead of a clear list of what's possible and what isn't.

PS: if people have suggestions to add to this list, PM me and I'll add them to my first post. In that way you see all impossible features at first galnce and you won't have to read through all the pages to get a clear impression.

Highways. That probably comes under the heading of "adding things", but people mantain that it is not adding something, it is only adding something in.

Regardless, I like the idea of an impossible list on the forum (as we have already established that hardly anyone reads the manual, which is a shame). Anyway, here we can discuss adding things to the list, whilst the locked one can be an "untouchable" record.

Not to criticise the writers of the manual, but I am somewhat of an expert on using the Patch and even I find using the manual to be more than somewhat awkward. Every now and again I think about working it over but I never have.

I always work my through the switches part easily, as the new switches are added after the ones from the last edition, but I admit that the size is a bit confusing to new people, but I think the online one is broken up into different sections that can be accessed by clicking on links, I wouldn't, know. I wander myself through the text version :)).

Maybe in the 'quick hint' with each switch should contain:
"For more information see ttdpatch.txt, section x.xx"

Curious, I'm convinced I posted something about OT reactions in concern with the list yesterday. Please use this thread only to add impossible suggestions, although I prefer to be PM-ed. If you want to dicsuss their impossibility please start a new topic.

I think, Trams are possible
Their gauge is similar to railway. they could use overhead wires (they are electric as EMU's) and the vehicles could be added by standard way into the locomotive pool.
I think, I'll add the T3 Tram by Czech 'Tatra' into my USSR (Western-European) Set...

Maybe, but you then you can't use the most important property of trams: they are integrated into the road so road vehicles can use them as well, and that's not possible with the patch.

In our country and in USSR we have a lot of lines of 'single-tram' where it is not integrated...

We've established that creating a third-rail system would require a set of graphics to replace OHLE - making a choice between "plain rail, OHLE, 3rd rail" is pretty difficult, and improbable. Maybe that should go onto the ImpossibleFeatures wiki page :)

As for running a different voltage on OHLE, just use your imagination :)

Why would it be impossible? All it takes is new graphics. There's nothing impossible about that, it's just a lot of work for someone to do. No coding required, even.
