More newbie questions

Post by Sgian Dubh »

Hi all,

1) I can no longer set up stations. It says the local authority won't allow it. Of course, I've already laid the infrastructure (my bad). Is there any thing I can do to change their minds? I've been planting trees - too no avail thus far.

2) Are their any tricks to setting up rail lines? I seem to spedn a lot of time and money on trying to lay track b/c I have to fiddle with the landscaping to get in nice and flat, etc. I often have to re-build a number of times.

3) Is there a way to turn off the trees so I can see the ground without havign to spend the money to destroy them?

4) I have no sounds or Music. I'm running under WinXP SP2. I didn't have the original TTD installed. I downloaded a file with the files OTT needed to run. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance.

1) Bribe them.
2) Think ahead.
3) Enable the option that is something like "Make trees invisible in transparent buildings mode", and tranparent building mode.
4) No clue. Last I checked, XPSP2 worked for me.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

1. Bribe them or plant lots of trees (removing trees reduces your rating, planting them increases it)

2. Plan ahead, decide the route you want to travel and build the stations first. Try to avoid terraforming too much close to towns.

3. Click and hold on the spanner and choose either the option that says "Transparent buildings (Latest version + latest nightly) or click on the option that says "Transparent trees" (Mini IN)

Thanks to all.

*How* do I bribe them.

I will try again to find the transparent thing. I had read about it, but I could not find it.

Mouse click on a town name and you get a pop-up menu. There you see several options (including the bribe option).

1) Click on the town name, then the Local Authority Button and there you can choose from a range of options, bribery being one of them.
Be careful as occasionally you may get found out and then wont be able to do anything from the Local Authority screen for about 6 months (maybe 1 year)

2) It's a pretty hit and miss thing, even if you flatten terrain and build direct routes you'll possibly end up changing them a couple of decades down the line!

3) I'm not sure if its a MiniIN only option but there certainly is a transparent trees option if you hold down the spanner icon and choose the transparent trees option, you can make them invisible if you have the option switched on in the configure patches screen.

4) Certainly for the music you need to get hold of the full version (either DOS or Windows) of TTD and copy i think the "GM" folder and its contents to your OTTD folder.
I'm not sure about the sounds problem as a previous poster suggested it could be some other missing files, it could be volume turned down in the game itself.

Best of luck

When I tried to bribe, the bribe comes up as the total amount of cash I have on hand.

Is this always the case? Seems a bit excessive to me. In one game I tried it, the bribe was nearly 930,000 pounds (which was how much cash I happened to have to hand)

Is there a way to offer a user-chosen amount of bribe money?

Is planting trees, paying for roads and buildings also a way to improve the authority's opinion of your company?

Bribery is expensive.
Trees as far as i am aware is the only other way to increase your L.A. rating.
If you are using the MiniIN you could create a subsidiary and use your subsidary for town destruction an once you've destroyed enough merger your companies and voila!

Hi all,

Here are some more questions from someone that has just upgraded from ttdpatch to openttd. I hope someone will take the effort to answer them.

1. How do I get the real speed of aircraft working? I am used to the ttdpatch standard, so i now find aircraft flying at an annoyable speed.

2. I managed to use most new graphics by opening the cfg-file and adding the filenames of the files that i pasted in the data folder. I can now build the new ships etc. but i can't build the new stations or electrified rails. So what am i missing to let that work?

3. By adding the new graphics, my airports now seem to encouter a problem. They work fine but they are graphical not ok. Anyone had more problems with that?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

new stations and electrified rails are only in the nightlies (http://nightly.openttd.org) and will be in the next release.
