The S-80/CH-53E is the largest helicopter currently in the Western World. With a max useful payload of 20 tons or 55 troops, the S-80/CH-53E is truely a heavy lifter. I have created two versions of this helicopter for you: a lumber hauling-civilian S-80 and a CH-53E configured for carrying troops, er, paying passengers

The S-80 features a slingload of lumber which appears when the helicopter is flying a load of logs and which disappears when the helicopter is offloaded.

Plans for improvement:

1. Put proper shadows on the helicopter (they are using AS139's right now). I've removed the shadows from the S-80. Don't know if I will add them back.

2. Clean up of minor visual faults (the little white specs which are sometimes visable on the blades).

3. Create more appropriate heliport styles
a. A more generic helipad, not one on top of a building.
b. A heliport for logging. The idea is to just eliminate the building graphic of the City Heliport; this would allow for the S-80 to be "hovering" while loading up a sling of logs.

Release Notes: They are fairly expensive vehicles; they cost a little more than the 737 when they are invented. I have found that even 20-30 passengers in the CH-53E over 150ish blocks can turn a substantial profit; in testing, the S-80 was making a little bit of money hauling logs in the 100-200 tile range, but the return was not quite enough to pay for the loan interest.

Please enjoy the helicopters :D

good job, but it should be just a little smaller
May the force be with you.
For little boys, three things reign as supreme attention-keepers: tanks, heavy construction equipment, and trains, we all know why where here.

Ok, I'll work on revising the graphics later today.

Why should that matter? Loco loads it up just fine (the only filename it seems to care about is the 8 character one inside of the xml.)

Ewww, Nice! I may go back to using helicopers again :D

I disagree. Heavy lifters are, by necessity, BIG.

Zoidberg: Please don't alter the graphics until you get a consensus on the size. I, for one, vote to leave its size as is. It might help to post a shot of the helicopters only in the game context, ie. without the oversized closeup shown in the original pic.

Quite true. I have some semi trucks that I use all the time with VERY long filenames. The longest is a whopping 30 characters (not including the extension), and those names also include spaces!

Lomo will work with long filenames just fine. Locomotion tools and editors don't like long filenames.
