Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
Most other GRFs from him are downloadable from ttdpatch.net but the ECS Support GRF is nowhere else. So I add it here until Michaels page is online again.
Edit:
- added Rivers (but I only have the Windows version, if someone else has both or at least the dos, he could post his pack here and I will remove or add it to mine.)
- Link to his autoreplace GRF: http://www.tt-ms.de/forum/showthread.ph ... 9#pid26589

Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
Having a life is one thing, disappearing entirely from the community and the internet, that's something else entirely. Bouncing e-mail is a worrysome sign. Unless Michael has changed providers, not told anyone in the community where he went, and lost interest in TTD entirely, which, is highly unlikely, there's possibly something else going on here.
Oskar mentioned that Michael was moving back in February, so possibly he's moved, has had PC trouble, provider trouble, site migration trouble who knows. I'm sure there's a perfectly logical explaination for Mr. Blunck's absence. I candefinitely understand how we could get worried though.

Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
The domain is still registered to to his name. However, aparently it is served as a forward to the ewetel adress at the other provider, which is currently deleted.
I like to look at great maps and see how things flow. A little like a finished model railway, but it is evolving and actually never finished. http://www.simutrans.com
Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
He doesn't seem the kind of person to leave without handing over his remaining sprites - seeing he is quite a perfectionist, his website still showed many non-released graphics, both stations and trains as well as ships, I believe.
Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
The only logical explanation of MB disappeareance I like would be provider problems. Anything else I don't like. MB has had a very local provider known for it's good service in northern Germany. When he moved to the middle or the south he might have lost his webspace and his E-Mail-Adress. Trouble like this would be an good explanation for several weeks.
But we're talking about three months right now.

I know that as well as everybody, but the bouncing e-mails and missing website - that's where the problem is.cmoiromain wrote:you know, everyone has a thing called "life"... Anyway, thanks for the info DanMacK, hopefully that's all it is - moving drama, and even though the website is down, he's probably got far more important things to worry about - like unpacking.

Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
Let us hope that is the case. I don't know if anyone knows him personally, but we have seen his great work over many years. So with no explanation for the disappearance, and any number of possible bad events that might cause him, it's natural to be concerned. If anybody has any non-Internet way of contacting him, not to nag him in any way, but just to reassure the community that no misfortune has befallen him, that would be a great relief.

Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
Prior to his joining the forum, only "insiders" could keep track of him. I remember stretches of many months when his site would not be updated, yet he would then surface. We know that he leads a busy life, and that TTD is only a small part of it. I suggest that he moved, and has to get his life back on track regarding all aspects that come with moving - new job, new social life &/c. With the warmer weather, my guess is that Mr. Blunck is planting a new garden, and we won't be seeing him for some time.

'Xactly, I remember a good long while when Michael would be awol for monthes on end without anyone hearing from him. Perhaps he just had the same attitude when it came to renewing his website hosting;
'Meh, I'll do it later'
God knows if I wasn't so hopelessly addicted to IRC people would have thought I had dissappeared for a bit. My web hosting never expires, but I sure know that if it did, you wouldn't see me bringing it back up any time soon.

The latest activity I can find out there in the internet, is this stats page showing last activity on Feb 6th 2008. I also found another site, with his last activity on the same day.

This corresponds to his absence from German TTD-Forums. And it's a fact I don't like. He didn't only leave TTD, he also left everything else.

Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
From what non-TTD "everything else" did MB disappear? Can it be explained by lack of reliable internet connectivity? He never really struck me as the type that was particularly dependent on his internet connection, and it might well be that going to the local library or internet cafe serves as enough access for him. Such places are not conducive to uploading large GRF files or spending hours on forums. And, assuming he doesn't have any updates to make, there's no particular reason to re-instate his website.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

But on the other hand, some people new to TTD could want to download his graphics, which are now not available for download.DaleStan wrote:And, assuming he doesn't have any updates to make, there's no particular reason to re-instate his website.

Re: Michael Blunck's new graphics [http://www.ttdpatch.de/]
If you checked the link I gave, it is a financial stock market discussion website, so rather non-TTD in my book. The other poster refers to the fact that he dropped off the German TTD forums at the same time.DaleStan wrote:From what non-TTD "everything else" did MB disappear?
It isnt just the website - his email account has gone and not been restored, and that has been active for years. That is the most unlikely feature of all.
This looks a bit more than a normal "not checking", however, one of the Michael Blunck references I found was for a participant in a multi-month adventure hike somewhere remote a few years ago. It could be he is taking time out in some remote place.
