From some OT chatter in my topic here, is the "3 attachment" limit set in stone, or could it be removed with the 6MB limit being relied upon instead?

Well, there will definitely be some limit - it's particularly a concern with screenshots, etc (we don't really want people posting 20 of those in a row). In theory it could be raised to, say, 4 or 5, but is there a particular need? You can always just post more posts, and perhaps have an index post as the first post of your thread if need be.

As for the 6MB limit, I hear reports that it actually doesn't work properly, and the effective limit is still 4MB. Unfortunately, I cannot tell why this is, as everything seems to be set to 6MB, but there's some gremlin somewhere that's causing problems. Also, the 4/6MB limit is per-file, not for all attachments in a post.

I suggest to raise limit to 5. It will be able to kill screenshot flood with removing (partially) problems in newgrf/ai section.

So what is the advantage of 10 posts in a row (together with 10 signatures) against 10 attachments in same post?

I suppose my preference is that any individual post doesn't become unmanageably long, although of course, there are ways that could happen without lots of attachments.
