French translation needs to be updated (outdated topic)

I just checked how many strings each translation are missing. It gave me this:
Czech: 0
French: 0
German: 0
Hungarian: 0
Italian: 0 (thanks peste1)
Norwegian: 0
Slovak: 0
Swedish: 0 (thanks prikk)
Are there anybody, who wants to do some updating?
this link is really helpfull to do that task
http://openttd.rulez.org/langcheck/langcheck.php
EDIT: updated because we updated some of the translations. Translations are now either up to date or very outdated
EDIT again: some French people have got the French translation to a good state

why do nobody reply to this one?
Is it because nobody cares for those languages or nobody knows how to do it?
I'm here to answer any questions to get people started if needed[/list]

Now I have made it easier for you to do
download the txt file you want to translate. It contains all the current translated strings and it have all the missing strings added like:
<TODO> english string
just search for <TODO> and change that string to the right language
once you are done, upload it on SF as a patch and I will apply it
[EDIT] I forgot to write that everything in {} are commands to OpenTTD and should not be translated. It will be replaced by town names, numbers, player names and so on

I got PMed by one, who works on the Italian translation
so there is no reason to start on that one now

The updated italian languagefile

compiling your (unmodified by me) language file:
G:\pel\OpenTTD>strgen.exe lang/swedish_124.txt
307: ERROR: String name 'STR_OSNAME_MORPHOS' does not exist in master file
removing that line 307 in my swedish.txt (your file but modified by me) which - for the record - now contains no <TODO>s whatsoever:
G:\pel\OpenTTD>strgen.exe lang/swedish.txt
2257: ERROR: Undefined command 'REV' in 'lang/swedish.lng'
2257: ERROR: Undefined command 'REV' in 'lang/swedish.lng'
2257: ERROR: Undefined command 'INT32' in 'lang/swedish.lng'
2257: ERROR: Undefined command 'CURRCOMPACT' in 'lang/swedish.lng'
is this ok? should I upload it?
was some weird stuff in it like the above, which looked like this (line 306 and 307)
Code: Select all
STR_OSNAME_BEOS :<TODO>BeOS
STR_OSNAME_MORPHOS :<TODO>MorphOS
why the <TODO>s here? and where does this "unknown" MorphOS come from? :)
they also appeared on some various other places where I didn't understand what to do but to remove them.

prikk: just upload it and I will take a look. It looks like there is a problem with strgen in the windows release

the CIA bot just said this: bjarni * r666 /trunk/lang/swedish.txt: Swedish language update (prikk/Oskar Thornblad)
Now whenever anybody looks up revision 666, they will see your name

Hmm, in norwegian, some things are too long.
Difficulty (Costum)
Vanskelighetsgrad (Egendefinert)
Can the windows be stretched?

http://svn.openttd.com/viewcvs.py/*chec ... xt?rev=646
download that txt file, edit the long strings to some shorter ones
then post it as a patch on SF

I want to suggest a nice function: make the outdated translations works with every rev. The untranslated strings will be replaced with the same but in English.

that's the way it works now, but 100 English strings in a language, that's different from English is not good

I guess that subtle string changes are also a problem, e.g. adding a space here, correcting a typo there, fiddling the punctuaction somewhere else ...
