New GRF Sets in Scenarios

Post by meppel »

hi guys.

Question. If I start a downloaded scenario (for example Europe Map)
is it possible to play this one with New GRF Sets, f.e. Total Town Replacement Set?

'cause my problem now is, that all buildings are from the old graphic style. The Total Town
Replacement Set Options are so modified, that buildings should show up in all years.

Thanks for your help..

no, NewGRFs cannot be changed after the map is created.

Not entirely correct imho.
see http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=68&t=55655

Might take a while , but over the game most of the buildings should take the graphics of the to be added grf.

As usual you forget to mention what might happen if you do that :)

Well , I believe the topic I linked to warned quite a few times about what might and might not happen :P

but well again. if you change newgrfs ingame , quite a few errors and crashes can appear , which is entirely your own fault and should not be reported to the developers and or any threads in this forum :))

The short answer is yes, you can.

As the other posters mentioned, there could be problems. They failed to mention why.
A new GRF replaces graphics associated with the game's (TT Deluxe or OpenTTD) internal (default) graphics. The replacements might not be one-for-one. In other words the new GRF might also change values such as building type or building size, for example a 2-tile bank might appear where a one tile house used to be. Or for an industry set, a factory might appear where a mine used to be.

The default buildings will be replaced over time once you start to play the scenario as a game.

In addition to Wally:

Changing newGRFs in-game is only a (recent) "problem" in OTTD, not in TTDPatch. There you may freely remove or add newGRFs from the newGRFs menu.

But it may cause problems there too, right?

Of course. The same set of problems as in OpenTTD applies.
