Build Under Slopes

With the buildonslopes switch we can build on top of slopes, so this is an extension: control-clicking when building on a slope builds underneath the slope. Is this possible?

For this tile, with the marked track type, define "below". Flat? Sloped, NE end down? Sloped, SW end down?

Flat, but one level down.

... as in RollerCoaster Tycoon, where you can lower all edges of a tile independently?

This has well and truly been suggested before.

and it has been attempted by a patch dev, but there was a problem, leading to jumping trains

Hmmm, what are you referring to? suttonc's original suggestion or the "independently" part of my post (which wasn't meant as a suggestion, I just used RCT as an example)?

The independent heights would be an extended part of this suggestion, but this would require a completely new representation of the map. As long as rail networks built with this feature are built correctly, there shouldn't be an oppurtunity for the trains to jump.

Oskar once planned to store all the corner heights of a tile (as a word I believe) with his new map array, however that never quite got started.

Wouldn't it use less memory to store only the height of the northern-most corner and the shape of the tile (for example, all other corners lower than northern one, or north and south corners higher than east and west)?

Actually no, quite the opposite, a landscape part (with shape style), and other parts are stored in an xyz based system. The main idea behind it would be flexible build options... (Freeform building much like Locomotion allows)
