Hi all, i hope i'm not double posting but can anyone tell me why the hell my trains won't cross any bridge that's longer than three squares ? It's damn annoying as the trains turn around after moving three squares onto the bridge and return to their station.

cheers

Hmmm ... another man that noticed the bridge bug. I think the 0.5.3-Rc1 should be hidden and devs should pretend it was never released, till 0.5.3-rc2 comes out :)

Bridge bug here too

Bridge bug seen here with .5.3 RC1 as well.

Train goes 1 or 2 squares on to bridge, disappears, then turns around.

Trains can't cross bridges in 5.3-RC1, single or multiplayer. I'm playing OpenTTD with the pre-compiled Windows XP installer.

We know, thus the "DO NOT USE" in the 0.5.3-rc1 thread's title...

Yes, but many people go to openttd.org without even knowing about the forum

And there is:
openttd.org wrote: Note:this release candidate (sometimes) crashes when trains go over bridges.
This looks like some minor error that may appear only occasionally.
It does not say that "bridges are unusable", which is the reality :)

I think this particular bug is bad enough to pull the release alltogether.

But it's not a release...

It's a Release Candidate.

The average user is not a software developer and doesn't know the difference between an rc and an actual release. They'll just click the first download link they see for their OS. Try to educate them and their eyes will glaze over... believe me, I've tried. ;)

I'd suggest modifying http://www.openttd.org/downloads.php to list the stable, recommended release at the top of the page.
