My first attempt at graphics - a new road

Hi All,

Started a new road graphic just because I considered it somewhere easy to begin. Comments and suggestions welcome for where I could improve it - I'm not 100% happy with all of the tiles and intend to smarten them up, but i'm off on holiday for a week and thought this would be a good time to grab a few ideas off fellow forum users :)

I can see at least 2 tiles where the white-line in the middle of the road isn't lining up, which is already on my todo list.

Cheers

Del

they're about 1 pixel wide, I don't think I could get them much smaller :D

Cheers

You can make them less bright to LOOK smaller :)

Delboy - Great start! 8)

With the centre lines, Id use a bit less of the black shaowing/highlight round them./ I think thats what makes them seem so big. Try lightening that to make the lines seem smaller.
The only other thing is that the corners look weird with the extra little dark area. Otherwise, its very nice :)

Nice effort, I've been doing a roadset for months now myself (on and off) and I've got annoyed several times, so I have to appreciate the speed of your work :D

Slight update - made the lines thinner, finished the new tunnels with red flashing lights (woo) and some general other little things.

Not a major change, but it's all I've been able to cram in this afternoon :)

Cheers Dave, I started this yesterday afternoon so I'm quite happy with my progress so far.

Cheers for the comments everyone :)

I like the flashing lights concept, a giffy please?
Tunnels are very very black. Don't fit well with rest.

Yeah, they are a bit too dark, Id say. Also, they seem it little blurred. They could do with slightly sharper edges.
Really good work though fella :)

Here's an animated gif of the tunnel - not had a chance to do anything else to it yet and my plane leaves in 4 hours so this will be the last for now :)

Thanks for all the encouragement guys! Also, at present I'm merely adding my graphics into the trg1r.grf. Can someone point me in the right direction towards a tutorial showing how to make these into the newgrf format so they're more easily distributable? I've had a look and can't seem to find it :( probably just being blind.

Once again, thanks for the words guys - they're most welcome

http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php ... phicsSpecs is a good place to start. You might want to look into the tutorials and action A. Also look at other people's code, the documentation can be somewhat hard to understand at times.

Wow! Those blinking lights are really nice. One thing, though: the light they cast on the road doesn't disappear and reappear when the lights blink. And maybe we could even see a tiny pixel of light cast on the tunnel floor, coming from the tunnel wall we can't see?

I remember the Caldecott Tunnel in the Oakland hills area in California (I lived in East Bay for a while- this tunnel is in the Oakland scenario of SimCity2000), the lights were your standard clear/yellowish color. Never seen a tunnel with red lights. My theory is that drivers would get automobile taillights confused with the tunnel lights, causing a wreck.
