My dad thinks that it is because if 1 loc is sabotaged that there are still others to take over.

It will have a lot of power tough. :P

British Royal Train is Top/Tailed, as are most railtours.

It's in case one of the engines fails.

And also for when it heads off branch lines which don't have run round loops. That way it can head back out without a problem.

Normally the dutch royal train also has top/tail engines, this train has two extra engines, suspect it to be a transfer.

Only one Lok 1600 can pull at the same time.
In multiple use, like 2 X DDAR there is only one of the two electro engines working per lok.
Due the 1800 V dc system, 3 fully accelerating loks will pull down the voltage of the catenary under neath 1000 V.
On that moment the system goes down for some seconds, till everybody takes back power needs.

It might be an ECS move, in which case (at least in Britain) some locos are hauled DIT or DOR (Dead in Transit or Dead on Rear) to move them around without the need to take up a costly part of the timetable.

As additional information, these carriages are first class carriages. b******, second class are already comfy enough.

I suspect the 4 engines are required to run at some speed at all under 25kV engines. After all, these engines are able yo tun on 1500V only.

Usualy only 2 engines :P (Wasnt the queen though but the minister of traffic and waterthings.)
Typical consist in TTD for many players. What is the problem?
All art and vehicle stats I authored for TT and derivatives are as of now PUBLIC DOMAIN! Use as you see fit
Just say NO to the TT fan-art sprite licensing madness. Public domain your art as well.

The oddness is that it's not...common for that sort of thing in real life.

And when that happens with a new IRM regirunner consist the relaisbox goes mad and the whole thing goes up into smoke like a couple of weeks ago :P
