Hmm. tension identifies. Could you elaborate it a bit? Given that NuTracks are GPL, what is the exact nature of this permission? I assume that you are able to release it under GPL? (viewtopic.php?f=26&t=59457&start=40),

DanMack and Coalroads Artists gave me permission via PM's back in January and February 2016 to use their Locomotives, Rolling Stock and some buildings they originally made to use in "Australian Standard Gauge v0.1.1 sets".

Providing they are credited where credit is due and the graphics to the sprites are not altered I am allowed to use them in my projects.

Hope that explains it ok.

This is where I am up to with the fake sidings at this stage .. still working on the South-West to North-East direction.
TwinTracks3.png
TwinTracks3.png (120.95 KiB) Viewed 3248 times
Made to different shades of rusty tracks .. very rusty as if these sidings only used a few times day if that .. the others are for a busier siding and marshalling yards.

There are no wagons in these sidings as yet .. still waiting on the Per-way Inspector and Track Supervisors to inspect them to make sure they ready for use.

Anyone like to inspect what I have done to day .. here a copy of the newgrf file.

Other the weekend will look through the "NSWR Track and Signal Diagrams" DVD and see if I can make replicas of some of the sidings and Marshalling Yards. This will help be design any other track formation needed.

Cheers

Here's a copy of the latest Auz_Fake_Rails Version 1 .. it is not finished, but it is playable.
Auz_Fake_Rails.rar
(152 KiB) Downloaded 106 times
It has sidings and wagons made up for both directions.

There are Main Lines (used for scenario making to map out where you plan for railway lines to go in game) and also suitable for game play.
Two types of rusty tracks .. one for busy siding and one for not so busy sidings.

Only one set of wagons done for the darker rusty tracks ..
TwinTracks4.png
TwinTracks4.png (43.53 KiB) Viewed 3175 times
As you can see in pic .. it doesn't look that odd when the wagons are placed on the lighter railway lines as it just looks like shadow underneath the wagons and behind the guards vans.

I still have a few more fake train combinations to make.

I also have a little room I like to do some fake Coaching Stock and place in sidings too.

As mentioned several Posts back, I see if I can make replicas of sidings here in New South Wales, Australia. I been practicing with Quirindi .. a diagram of this siding is on previous page.

Manage to make some new fake track formations which will be in Version 2 later.

These will be some of those formations.

Fake Level Crossings .. will do single sidings too. Not sure if I can do these and still allow vehicles to cross over them .. unless I use overlaps ???

2nd and 3rd lot is to allow continuation of Main Lines to and from Sidings.

Beautiful work, Garry :)) . You for any type of road create crossings? What do you plan to add to this set (fake railway, railway crossings, bridges, stations, depots, and much more)?
We look forward to further innovations :D .

Thanks STD .. Going to see if can make the road crossing as overlaps to see if allow road vehicles to use.

Then do a few more replicas of railway sidings see if any combinations of points I have forgotten to add.

Hope there is room after that to add Passenger Coaches to some of the sidings.

If room allows after that like to try add fake platforms to them and hopefully make them so that will match up with the ISR sets.

Also intend to alter or add some stations and other railway related buildings in the Auz_Lineside_Objects and AuzInd160 so they match up with this Auz_Fake_Rails set.

Started to place Passenger Coaches on Fake Tracks. They are all New South Wales, Australia coaches. Many designed from UK coaches so hope these are suitable for other countries to use.
TwinTracks7.png
TwinTracks7.png (10.34 KiB) Viewed 3070 times
The coaches done so far from top to bottom.
HUB Set (Used on the Newcastle Flyer) and Mail Carriages used on most of the Mail TRains)
Suburban and Country Sets
NAB & CUB Sets (Used in Sydney and Newcastle suburban areas before electrification)
2 car Diesels
RUB Set .. only placed these here so you have the option to make any RUB set combination you like as these where used for trains such as Inter-capital Daylight Express, South Coast Daylight, Central West Express, Brisbane Limited Express and Gold Coast MotorRail. For the last 2 use some Silver Sleeper carriages from The Southern Aurora Set.
Southern Aurora Set ..

A problem I will have is the Electric Trains .. I will not have enough room left in the Auz_Fake_Rails set to add any .. also I use the Dutch Overhead Wires which might not suit everyone.

Why do all my projects start off something simple yet expand to larger then what first planned????

This all looks very nice!
Had a go at making level crossings overlap the roads. Vehicles will use the crossings but have a slight glitch as can be seen in this pic.
I am afraid this can only be solved by splitting up the overlap in 2 pieces, a piece in front of the road (that will solve the problem with the vehicles looking like they run over structures) and a piece at the other side of the road (that should then have the rail overlapping the road).
A problem I will have is the Electric Trains
To be honest, dont worry about those. Most sidings I know of are unelectrified and diesel shunters are used to move carriages. So if you are really in trouble with room in the set, just dont include them ;-)
A couple of tiles with a shunter would be nice though ;-)

That why I not fixed the issue yet as knew that what I need to do .. will do this later.

Could do that, maybe make a couple of tiles some with a old steam loco as these was used as shunters for a long time and also a diesel shunter .. players can choose what they like.

I just realised .. these twin tracks I doing, I left out the ballast between the tracks .. I doubt very much that there are marshalling yards and sidings with grass growing between the lines.

So will re-do them and put crashed ballast between them so they will match up for the ISR Stations Sets.

Not sure how long will take me to make these changes ..

So perhaps instead of trying to make the final scenario immediately, make a test version? Likely it is less good than the final version (it would be sad otherwise), but it would be a way to finish and publish a scenario, and improve from there.

I think none of us ever reaches perfection and completeness of the ideas. At some point, we've come close enough, and we stop.
GarryG wrote:I just realised .. these twin tracks I doing, I left out the ballast between the tracks .. I doubt very much that there are marshalling yards and sidings with grass growing between the lines.
Normal OpenTTD tracks also have green grass between them, which is probably why it didn't look out of place to me. OpenTTD just has very strong grass vegetation :)
GarryG wrote:So will re-do them and put crashed ballast between them so they will match up for the ISR Stations Sets.
Try a few, and test if it looks better. For unused sidings, grass makes sense, as the stuff grows everywhere. However, maybe make it a little more grey, and less green to show the difference with normal open space?
GarryG wrote:Not sure how long will take me to make these changes ..
Any value less than infinity will work, imho.

I was looking at some screenshots you made here last week, and wondered how clean the sidings are. Wouldn't a few metal bits and other waste collect itself at such places?

When I worked with railways here .. a weed poison train would visit regular to spray along the lines and the sidings to keep the grass from getting green, so think be ok in some places maybe a odd bit of green could show. See what I can do .. the sidings I done with the lighter colour rust I think could stay weedless as being busier .. but the darker rusty tracks probably look ok the odd weed here and there.
Alberth wrote:I was looking at some screenshots you made here last week, and wondered how clean the sidings are. Wouldn't a few metal bits and other waste collect itself at such places?
If I got space left in this object set probably could have some maybe piles sleepers or some railway line laying near some of the single sidings, have to look into that idea see what can come up with.

To allow room in this object set .. thinking of splitting it in to 2 .. Part 1 be the fake railway lines and Part 2 be the Fake Rolling Stock. Shall see what happens.

Been ballasting the sidings and marshalling yards .. still a lot to do .. but this will give you an idea what it will look like.
TwinTracks8.png
TwinTracks8.png (69.55 KiB) Viewed 2915 times
These are the lighter rusty tracks with some rolling stock.

The grey area on the 2 main lines is a platform from the ISR Station set.

For the fun of a game if had several roads of main lines through a large marshalling yard with the platforms .. could make it a transfer station for some cargos .. smaller trains come in off branch lines and leave there load here and it then used to make up larger trains to continue the journey.

Noticed while typing this that the sidings are missing clearance posts .. have to see about putting them in .. Clearance posts are located near junctions it tells the driver where to stop his train so it will not block a set of points.

Next question is what looks best with these fake sidings I been experimenting with .. these ones here or those 3 pages or so back.

The ones here have 2 sidings fitting on one tile, but as can be seen are not close to the main lines.

The set I first started had the fake tracks closer to the main lines but had the overlap tiles so the other tracks overlapped into another tile.

The set I done here shown above should be completed in a few days so will finish it off, but my opinion I think the first idea might be the go.

Let me know what you all think which you prefer.

Re: Auz Lineside and Roadside Objects

Post by GarryG »

Finished ballasting the sidings and added a few more formations of fake railway lines and ran into a problem .. the file is full no room for any more .. I had to remove the fake passenger coaches to make room for the rail formations I added.

Looks like the Fake Rails and the Fake Rolling Stock need to be 2 separate files.

While I ponder on what to do next .. here a copy of latest Auz_Fake_Rails version 2 with out the coaches .. it does have the level crossing but have not fixed the glitch yet.

My only comment would be that sidings & yards tend to be of lower quality track, usually still on wooden sleepers yet these look to be have laid with the freshest concrete sleepers going. Other than that, loving the work.

Thanks for the comment. Funny how colours appear different .. the sleeper colours I actually took from some wooden sleepers I took photos off .. the sleepers wasn't that old and yes in these images .. they do look a bit concretish don't they. Over the weekend I hope to be near railway lines again so see if I can se any older wooden sleepers .. may not be any under the railway lines but surely there be some laying to the side of the lines, or at least pieces of some. If I can find a darker colour I will see if can change some of these, especially those with the rustier tracks.

Cheers pal.

I can not decide which fake siding and marshalling layout is better .. so I putting it to a vote see what all think.

1. Has the overlap tracks so they can be placed closer to the main lines where actual trains run in game.

2. Does not have the overlap so therefore can not be built as close to the Main Lines.

Set 1 will need to be in 2 parts .. Part 1 for the fake tracks and Part 2 with Fake Freight Wagons and hope to also add Fake Passenger carriages.

Set 2 .. if I leave out the passenger carriages could be made available very soon. Just a few finishing touched to be made. Going to remove the level crossing and just have a yard crossing for maintenance and railway vehicles to use.
