Its the opposite here. All train stations (including small ones in the country) were built by big rich companies and built them to accomodate 12 coach trains. Since all we have today are 2 car DMUs, lots of platform space, although lots of the unused platform has some grass between the cracks.

That's not always true BA. Where I live the platforms have been extended to take longer commuter trains at country stations and the new sections are very different to the old. I was able to observe this on the way home this evening when my train caught fire :(

Really? Nifty. Shame about the fire, what caused it?

Oh and woo! pgs-pre3!

Here are some new platforms and cranes. The lights mesh better and the ramps are now the right size.

OK ... and now for the good, the bad and the ugly:

(screen shot in brackets)

The Good: :D
Great graphics and everything fits (all)
Freight (hotshot) - main building also on opposite side of tracks
Freight (hotshot) - train does not enter empty tile.
Country (rimshot) - added freight building.
Silverline (screamshot) - Consistent with other pgs stations.

The Bad: :P
Basic (hotshot) - high level I available as single tile - other I tiles are not - why not?
Country (rimshot) - in North\South view, freight building should be on same side as station, as it is in East/West view
Silverline (screamshot) - needs overpass too.
Suburban (screamshot) - needs underpass too.
Silverline (screamshot) - building does not show when placing single tile - have to use minimum 2 track or 2 tile to get building
Silverline (screamshot) - 2 track placement only shows 2 buildings while Shelters shows 3 - why?

The Ugly:  You after reading this post? (hehe)

Thanks Wallyweb, but everything in 'The Bad' category are simply things needing more sprites, I cant as a coder and very mediocre pixel painter do anything about them. Thanks for the compliments though! :D.

EDIT: Okay, one is a coding issue, Ill get right on it!

Really good stations! I like them! :)

But I miss the stations with a platform on only one side. I prefer them, because they are more realistc (in germany).

They might be realistic, but in TTD, the size between the platforms/tracks is simply too much, also they clutter the drop-down boxes too much, and especially in the case of Borns freight stations, there isnt enough room to put them back in.

It's a pity to lose the I and S stations, but the addition of Born Acorns "blank concrete" should be really good to use.

Kudos to Aegir for coding one of the features I have been waiting for for AGES. :)).

awesome, will look a.s.a.p.

and Aegir, to get back at those country freight stations: i think the old one really looks inferior to the new ones. so i'd be pleased if you at least took the old country freight sprites out. we'll discuss the new ones as soon as i made that mock-up.

Okay, Ill rip the freight station out, its got buggeh coding anyway.

Now, when I get to releasing the full 1.2, I will be doing it in a brand new thread. This one is starting to get too big for me to rummage through, and the first post will be maintained with the latest information about the set as a whole, progress, download locations, and so forth. Synced with that, Ill finish my website for P:GS, and me and the readme will be polished off.

Now, I have a question. Do people want the main release as one .grf, or keep the seperate .grf style I'm using currently in the pre builds? I personally like the idea of keeping the seperate .grf's for things such as the basic platforms and the bare tiles, with one whole .grf for the actual stations. Im even thinking of going as far as seperating the bare platforms and bare tiles into seperate releases, to keep Project Generic Stations to what Im intending, Generic Stations. For the pre-releases though, it'll all be seperate .grfs. No negotiation with that one, it makes the entire set so much easier to work with, and merging for major releases is relativly easy.

Which also applies to maintenance post release and game play ... leave it as it is.

agreed, separate grf's are much more practical.

I find one big GRF to be much more practical.

When your site is ready, I'll take down mine. Actually I should probably just take it down as it's so obsolete.
