{sorry for the double post but it will get messy when I put this on my other post}

This is my idea:

Selectable!

Wonderfull ! But a "select all" button would be great... Same problem...

There should be also a way to sell multiple wagons at once, but not all of them, like if you want to selectively replace some.

Mr. X wrote:It's about the sell whole train button, and I have this other idea and that was that it could be possible that you can select the desired wagons (the ones that have to be sold) and just 1 button to sell the selected wagons.
Like selecting in a way how windows selects files or folders.

(with ctrl + click to select manually, and shift + 2 clicks to make an whole selection between the first click and the second.
You mean this?
I mentioned it earlier.

Okay, good idea!

Hi,
My two pence worth. How about making clicking the train [vehicle] number select the whole train? It removes the need to have multiple buttons to perform simular functions, whilst remaining reasonably intuative, that is the number is associated with the whole train, not just a carriage.

that could be an idea, and we can expand this: (this goes for if you have more than 1 train in the depot) when the number is clicked, and you want to add new wagons or loco's, OTTD will know where to put new bought vehicles instead of putting them beneath the last consist. That can become quite handy if you asked me.

Another very simple solution for when you want to sell like 10 trains...

When you delete the depot, a message pops up: there are trains still in the depot, want to sell them? YES - CANCEL

Something like that would seem handy.

Hmm, that's not very realistic...That's like selling your house, including the furniture and all the other stuff..

he was right about the handy part

Well, that "selectable" interface would be comfortable if you get used to it, but maybe it's rather complicated. My oppinion that this idea is both simple and comfortable enough:
click = drag a single wagon or loco
ctrl+click = drag whole train

hmmm... yeah, and why did we start this topic then?
(good idea though, but then were off with only one button!)

You started it ...remember

BTW: I like the sell all trains in a depot.... I like it.... a lot
Really handy and realistic too since you are asked if you want to sell all trains and after the depot is emptied you destroy the depot
(whats so unrealistic here?)

Ow yeah... I remember, The head point was that we were searching for a new icon for the sell whole train button, but new ideas came in to (maybe) enhance the depot window!

what if you have 10 trains in the depot and you want to delete 5 of them?

destroy the whole depot and thus all trains in it? guess not.
I like the idea but it's only usefull when you have to clear all.

Well If you want to sell only five then sell them by hand. Since it's not that much of a work. I think that was intented in the way when you replace the monorail with maglev (for example) then you replace everything with that veeery handy button... but then there are 50 trains or so in the depot you cannot replace and thats annoying sell by hand.

It's making it simple the bin should just stay there since it's very understandable.(when I first played TT I had no clue what to do(I was about 7 yrs old) but when I saw a bin in the depot I knew that that is for selling trains-vagons)

I'm not saying the dynamite icon looks right there, and some of your designs are great, but remember that the picture doesn't need to completely explain what the button does... That's what the right-click tooltips are for, and let's be honest, how long did it take you to learn what it did even as a dynamite icon?

Five minute mock-up. It'd be to the pallette at the end of the day.

My one cent about this:
Mr.X is on the right track, rethinking the GUI to make it simpler and more
functional. (Not in the design of new flashy graphics but more layout)

Why do we need a new icon? Is it not because the icon where not obvious
enough and the GUI where lacking. I believe that the way to go is Mr.X's
way!

the answer to a request of a new icon does'nt mean that the answer is a
new icon.

Edit:
I know that this is not a simple task as it would be to replace a image with
another, but I believe that it is vital to always try to rethink the simplicity
of the GUI layout.

I don't even know if it is called GUI but graphics user interface sounds like
the right thing ;)

I thank you really for you support Pilatus,

The only problem I had not forseen yet is that the new graphics engine will be quite ready for not too long I guess, and maybe everything will be quite different including the whole GUI system.

If so: than this all is useless I think. (I hope not)

I was talking about an additional feature... not the key element of this discussion, but just an option in case you DO want to delete all like 50 trains in the depot..

And I think the implementation of this is rather easy.

ooowww, okay srry I misunderstood, well it seems rather easy to implement and I agree with the fact that it's very handy if you really want to delete 50 trains, but when do you have 50 trains in 1 depot?

(If I want to replace/delete/modernize so many trains I don't lock them all up at once because they are still making money, so I replace/delete/modernize them mostly 5 at the time, or am I missing the point again? :? )
