Yeah, it's me again. Oskar hinted around that he wanted a good sample of one-way roads in effect, so I brought forward my long-suffering bus network for the answer.

Two screenies for your perusal, the first one shows the roadsystem in the CBD, and the other one shows the buses that use it.

Of note is the fact that with one way roads, my buses can all head in the same direction into the main bus stop, and then in the same direction out. Result? Very little traffic jammage, and NO jam ups.

Road vehicle queuing, invented for the patch before I ever heard about it, was, and still is a good feature, but in a crowded CBD setting where tens of buses tried to use the same station, they would quite often get stuck, even with the proper queue. Now, we finally have the perfect solution. Buses never have to cover old ground in their loop, and my bus network can finally pick up all the people waiting at the centre of the city.

Lets have a look what we got.

The E90 and 190 are variations on the same service, running along the highway between the centre of this city, and Megalopolis, the big city that will feature as part of the adjoining scenario to this (yes, I'm crazy enough to link scenarios). The E90 only stops in this city and at Interbridge Atoll, whereas the 190 stops at any towns along the way too. It also travels via the older highway for part of the way, rather than the expressway.

The E80 and 180 fullfill the same role, only they depart from the Harbour, which is the other main suburb in this city.

The 150, 152 and 155 buses, all service varying amounts of the area between the Harbour and the CBD. These are all stops buses, and will stop at any intervening bus stops as well.

The 110 is the most important bus service in the CBD. It is comprised purely of double-deckers, and is the only route to feature the new Leyland "Titan" buses, recently bought. It ferries people from the CBD to the station. If they want to get back from the station after their trip, they can walk.

Pikkabirds fantastic double-deckers also help keep traffic down, so that I don't need 40 buses to service the city. 20 do just fine.

Note, that this is only the year 1950 or so, there is a lot more expansion to the bus network, as there still need to be more intercity buses (especially until my railway network gets out to the towns), as well as buses to the Northern Suburbs, and the far north beaches.

The third screenie on display is part of the highway running between the two major cities on the map. Here you can see how one-way roads has allowed for a proper highway, with express buses and everything.

These are taken from the scenario "Between a rock and a river", which can be found in the scenario thread.

EDIT: Okay, due to my silly screenshot sizes, the third screenshot is now first. Because I just spent all that time typing it all out, I can't be buggered cutting and pasting it to fix it, so just live with it ;).

Oh, and this one's mainly for Jim, but I hope everyone else enjoys it. There are daily passenger ferries north to "Interbridge Atoll", and once a week ferry south to Banley City Beaches (where one can get a train into the CBD).

Freight ships also take the coal down to Banley City East, where the power plants are (the wind in this game seems to always blow to the east, so that keeps the smog off my city). Also, ships serviving the local fishing spots are serviced here.

EDIT: Only I can forget to attach the screenshot TWICE....

Due to a conversation on the #tycoon channel with Rai, I was taking screenshots of my London station because I made the comment that I can sometimes get 4 trains in my station block at once thanks to PBS. The first image up was just before I decided to pull something entirely insane with the station. At this point we have two innercity lines, a short line to Sheffield and the line connecting to the mainline.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v520/ ... tation.png

Now, I was having a problem. I wanted a couple of trains running from London to Dublin non-stop. However they would get caught behind slower passenger trains or at stations where the lines where already full. This lead to me wanting an express line. However to get a completely dedicated line out of there was going to be insane due to the freight lines and just all out lack of space. However, using some nice tunnel work I got a 5th line going into this single station. I also allowed more options for paths for the trains to take and moved the mainline entrance around since it was having problems with trains getting in due to the innercity next to it.
So finishing this, I uploaded another picture for Rai:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v520/ ... hanged.png

A little later after this happening I went back on to TTD to find I had accidently not saved my changes for my express line. I got slightly annoyed(read: Swearing in IRC which I don't do that often at the moment) and went on to build the thing again. I made comment to Rai that I just had to rebuild the thing and jamesvassie noticed my comment and asked for an image of this station so I gave him this one with traffic that I often see at this station:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v520/ ... raffic.png

He seemed to be impressed by the insanity of 5 lines going into this one station and went on to request more of a view of the surrounding area and I obligied him since that was easily the most complex part of my network. I zoomed out a single level and grabbed this image(not cropped due to the fact that I was trying to show as much as possible):

I'd like to thank patchman for PBS to give me the ability to make such an insane station junction. I'd also like to thank Jim Powers for what turned out to be one of my top three favourite scenarios. If people would like the savegame posted just say and I might throw it up. I don't usually like posting savegames cause I'm a paranoid person and think people will think them crap.

Hehe, thanks.

I actually tweaked the inner-city streets a bit more, and added on another two routes...

the E70, running 4 buses between Northern Banley and Banley City Station, express (this is faster than the train, and saves people catching a bus from the centre of NB to NB Station, then a train from NB Station to Central), and the 171, an all stops route between NB and the CBD.

EDIT: Added another screenie to the mix...

This one is a shot of Eastern Banley. Due to the lack of space, this ro-ro only has two platforms. It is where most of my big income comes from, not counting the express passenger trains.

Nice screenies as ever, Raichase!

I have a question: In your first screenshot there is a fish-train loading at the docks and a second goods-train is waiting at the presignal. Is PBS used there? Because the would cause the second train take the wrong route (the ET-40 is there at the moment).

I like the way of ro-ro-stations in your second screenie! I'm using special holding tracks or depots for reversing the trains, too.

Yes, I'm using PBS for that junction, if only for the ability to alert the buses crossing at the crossing that there is a train coming. The reason the freight doesn't go the wrong way, is due to the fact there there is a one-way signal against it, so it can't choose that path. Also, it is waiting at a pre-signal, and the only pre-signal exit is currently red, thus the signal it is waiting at will not clear until the other freight train has moved on.

It's rather efficiant, for only two freight trains. It would all break if I added a third train though. The freights are the only ones that use that loop, all the passenger trains are heading out of the other track, never into it.

Thankyou for your feedback too :)).

Attached are another few shots.

In the junction screenshot, the various tracks are, clockwise from top right:

1. Main passenger line. This line is a 4-track line feeding straight to Central Station.
2. Coal line. This is a line used only by coal trains, to avoid having to go through Central Station (it's already congested enough), which connects up with the Eastern Commuter Lines, and crossed over the Sunny Fields Mainline.
3. Central Line. This line heads directly south, and takes coal trains, as well as passenger trains, and the occasional livestock/grain train.
4. Directly next to the Central Line is this small farm line branch that services a small farm. The line is run with very old rolling stock, and a pair of V200's.
5. The line joining the farm line OVER the tunnels is the mainline heading up North. This line reaches most of the map, and takes Express train to Megalopolis Outskirts.
6. The line going UNDER the tunnels is the mountain line. It heads directly west. Currently only used by the steam train going up to the town of "Tourist Trap" and a coal train made up of two BR140's.

Here is some pictures of my meager game.
First Pic: The Express Intercity train being held up behind a slow, lumbering wood train. You can see a detour is set up, with suburban traffic going the top-right, and the InterCity and freight going to top-left.
Second Pic: quite a while later, when the detour has been removed and replace by a highway(named 'detour highway' in memory of the line which once stood there.

Put in a link next time, makes it easier to find.

You can get those here, but you need the alpha patch for that.

For behold, my HQ island! (using imagination)

Its so important, the lake its on is surrounded by Chainlink fencing, and under the water are nets to keep out intruders. 3 Checkpoints are kept along the route, not including the entrance.

Hehe, thats funny.

It does seem that your company has too much money, and your builders have too much time on their hands though .

Nice HQ pictures anyway :].
