I'm afraid we won't ever see stuff like that in a computer game.
Well, we do if we look hard enough. Ports of Call - fabulous game, and still under development. It takes realism right to the fact that if you leave your HQ to deal with your ships for too long, your office might get burgled. Seriously. That's bloody cool. It's almost certainly not the only game with attention to realism, either.

I'd like to thank all the developers for what is a very good game even tho its still classed a s a pre version 1 bit of software!
I think you could have called it version 1 could have been when the functionality of OpenTTD = Transport Tycoon Deluxe!

My only (very small!) issue with the game is it's legal status for using the original GRFs from Transport Tycoon. I was asked to remove it from my work laptop since I could not prove it was legal. Fortunately I found I had a real, legal copy of Transport Tycoon Deluxe, and they relented, and it's stayed there since, and kept me amused when I've been stuck a clients sites with not allot else to do!

Thanks Guys. Keep up the work.

No. That's exactly why I play this game.
See, I play this for fun. I like the tiny trains trains just because they are there.
I don't need to achieve anything. I don't need to win.

I agree with klogg.

Johnny B Goode: please stop quoting acres of text to add a 4 word comment. This is about the 5th thread you've done this in tonight. Please be brief.

Sorry. Old habit.

Local authority system should be redone a bit. Sometimes I either think they're getting pissy too fast over something, or me getting away with something really really bad stuff.

That they have the ability to block your lines if they're too pissy should work. I don't mind realism in the game, as long it optional. ;) (Some advanced rules can be a bit too much for newbies).

Well said!
What we are here for obviously is to play with trains :)

Dave Worley wrote:You can never get bored with trying to operate a network realistically. I can imagine the horror of you lot knowing that, actually, in real life, a 4-way junction with 12000 bridges and tunnels DOESN'T EXIST!
Well I have some 61 tracks and 4 rail bridges (over other rail) right outside my window ... and that is only what I can see there are plenty of more bridges further out.

"plenty of more bridges" aren't 12.000 :-)

In fact, does anybody know of a geek-site with pics of real-life junctions?..
Could be good for some inspiration (and a reality check for some :D )

Here are a few links about different junctions

http://www.dhke.com/CRJ/others-chiso.html
http://www.cbu.edu/~mcondren/MRP/Memphi ... ossing.htm

No bridges there though ... but I doubt that separating the cargo and passenger traffic vertically close to stations like is done before the station out here is very uncommon for places that have large passenger and cargo stations close by.

Freight trains tend to stand still a lot and go back and forth and back and forth and back and forth as they are being put together and loaded ... and generally are pretty much in the way for everyone and everything close to cargo stations.

In real life junctions are really simple, not at all as complicated as in TT, but that's just part of the gameplay. If you had time tables like in real life rail companies then massive complicated junctions wouldn't be needed. Then again imagine having to make those time tables! Yikes! So both ways you end up with headaches.

Persons taking a part of poll and making a replies may tell you more than all the posts that are on this whole forum. :) I really don't mean anything bad, but let us see. How the discussion will progress. And take out some conclusions for the future. Discussion to me is open.
I think you will find that there are already a lot of efforts underway to improve realism in this game, perhaps you should take a look around the forums before posting a huge rant. Many features you also suggest would take a lot of programming and testing and would take a lot of time to implement, remember people do this for fun in their spare time. Do you realise how far OTTD has progressed since the original Transport Tycoon release over a decade ago? Lastly, it is also a very open ended game. If you dont want to do 'more than just establishing a transport company and making easy profit and making the “map railed”' then thats your perogative, use your imaginiation in an incredibly open ended piece of software instead of whining and not contributing anything real to game development.

So let's see what you've done here...

You've dug up a topic that had been left to die MERELY FOR THE PURPOSE of flaming the OP.

Is something not computing here?

The point of this thread was to have reasoned discussion about the current state of this particular flavour of TTD. "Critique" isn't mindless ranting, it is very often carefully reasoned thought that others can deconstruct in a controlled and civil manner.

By attempting to point out Matrix666lb is wrong without constructively suggesting your opinion to his problem, you have come across as a whiner yourself.

Nothing and no one is above criticism. TTD and it's various incarnations are my favourite games, but I don't sit here and slag off the developers - but then nor did Matrix666lb.

One can not improve without good critique, which is what I, and many others, considered this to be.

Please think before digging up topics to add your point which wasn't really all that relevant to the original point. Thanks.
