I agree with the chap above - it's really rather frustrating having keep looking around your (rail) network to either fund a replacement industry for the one which expired or have to change lines. To be able to turn off the closure aspect would be brilliant.
(It is however, a most wonderful set!)

You may find it frustrating, but it's kind of the point of the set.
The two most common requests are to remove the stockpile limit from secondary industries, and remove the production exhaustion from the primary industries. If you do that, you may as well be playing with the default industries.

Thanks for the reply Pikka, i agree i love the stockpiling and it is really what makes this set unique.
It would be nice however to selectively change open/closing of the industries. Not just to stop serviced ones closing down, but also to stop the monthly waves of closures/openings that can become a big problem on larger maps and are really the only big issue i have with this set; 20 years into the game i spend more time chasing which serviced industries have closed and rerouteing trains than i do building new routes
Even by changing opening/closure the stockpile element would still make this set unique as without closures you still have to juggle supply to secondary and tertiary industries to stop trains failing to unload due to a stockpile being at capacity.
As to the stockpile mechanism; it would be nice to see stockpiles vary industry to industry, for example Steel Mill 1 can hold 700t Coal 1000t Iron ore, Steel Mill 2 can only hold 500t coal, but 2000t of Iron Ore... This would add more to the sets interest by making the player not only select the most suitably located Industries to add to their network, but also make that decision based on the industries stock pile capabilities... It would also, to a degree, lessen the impact disabling industry closure would have on the set; as it still forces players to work with the PBI industries in a different way to the default ones, or the default ones with the Manual Industries GRF...

Very good points what You came out! As regular user of PBI I would be happy to see some of those implemented.

Same goes here. It hoping for some improvements.

I think the stockpile sizes should increase within the production like in ECS.

My suggestion is not to increase the stockpile size, but reduce the amount of primary industry production.
ECS is different thing

Yes, ECS is just way stupid on high numbers in my opinion. Anyway, I think PBI is great but what I am missing are for example parameters to disable stockpiling, requirement of all cargoes for a steel mill for example (both coal and iron ore required to actually even accept/produce any cargo) and making mines live forever.
That would make it usable very universally even without the "limitations". I suggest this mainly because the set is visually just awesome and still adds some VERY nice depth to the game. Quite practical is that it is not that brutal amount of new industries like FIRS or ECS which could get confusing or just annoying to have so many. But I find some aspects just too limiting. I understand that it really makes the set different but ends up oriented just on small and short games, which is a shame
Thanks! V.

have any of you missed the post that said "this is done. nothing gets changed"?

or just use FIRS which does all three natively. it might get less crowded with industries once "economies" mature.

Obviously.

sorry

it would still be nice

FIRS just is different

recently i'd (randomly) looked upon a wikipedia page about fossil-fuel power stations.
one which caught my eye was that, 'fly ash (PFA) generated from the cleaning of the matter in the electrostatic precipitator '
would this be a good idea, that the power stations then become:coal in, fly ash out, in that fly ash has to be removed from site; if not, after an amount is stored at the p.s. it will not be able to process any more coal
i seem to know that West Burton p.s. has this facility

Fly ash is also used for the production of cement, concrete and bricks. Can make a nice extended chain

Even modern mega power plants like DRAX produce enough ash to be collected. It'd be cool if in the future (around 2000) theres a chance that coal power plants when spawned will build a Mega Coal power plant like DRAX with multiple facilities to help generate massive amounts of power at the expense of a huge apatite for coal.
I think it would be pretty cool to have a Ash cargo for the brick chain add-on for brick works (and maybe cement mills)

using the ISO containers or '60-'90's CSA fly-ash hoppers like this

I think i may have found a bug - Appologies if it is known about.
I have a Steel mill with coal trains and iron ore trucks delivering. The coal is always very near the maximum storage of 750T but when a train arrives it delivers all of its 120T of coal and gets the income of the total amount but the amount in storage goes just over 750 and then stops.
Surely once it reaches 750 the rest should just sit at the station?

or stay on the train for delivery at another location?

It doesn't know how much will be unloaded in the next tick, so if it's at 740t and the next tick unloads 60t the stockpile will hit 800 before it stops. Any coal remaining will either remain in the train or be dumped on the station, depending on the train's orders.

That is what i was expecting - instead the excess just disappears but gets sold
My orders were to unload and take cargo - then to jump to a power station if load % was more than 0

That should show the behaviour at the steel mill

It uses the latest CPP by the way - is there an issue with that?
Scrap that - it works in 1.1.1 - Any idea what is causing this?
Final edit - does not work properly in 1.1.1 - Sometimes a bit is picked up but not enough and not always
