We did. In the early days of FIRS the possibilities of combining FIRS with one or more ECS Vectors has been looked into. As FIRS evolved, it turned out to be rather unlikely that it would be possible to combine it with ECS. Once we reach 1.0, we might look into that matter again. For now, actually creating FIRS has priority.

Also I would like to ask to move the discussion to change the game or FIRS out of this topic. It has nothing to do with the current FIRS release. Changes to FIRS you are welcome to discuss in the development topic. Changes to the game should go into a new topic.

the downside about ECS is that it never really works with any of they daylength patches because of how the industries work.
the pro side about FIRS is that it Does seem to work pretty nice with daylength patch. so i would say, dont change how industries work! they do just fine

FooBar and me do talk to George about ECS and Pikka about PBI and TAI. Reasons we don't join are the following list:
- we don't want to.

And that's all that matters really :D
Look train set are compatible, I can load many train/road sets. City buildings are also "almost" compatible. Why should industry be an exception
This is a good question. I used to play with both CanSet industry and PBI in the same game. Some things were broken (missing cargos, broken industries), but it increased the number of industries in game.

Combining ECS and FIRS is simply impossible within the current game. The limit is 32 cargos. ECS defines around 31, FIRS defines about 29. Only 13 of those cargos are present in both ECS and FIRS. Even then we sometimes use different names, weights, payment rates etc.

I think it's interesting to ask "why isn't this possible?"....but in reality, it isn't. Why not start a thread in the suggestions forum if you'd like to see it changed. Be sure to explain what the reasons / benefits would be ;)

There is no release yet, but the nightly is compatible too:

hi all

Conflict Firs 0.4 with ttrs3w-nightly-r18
Image
Start a new game (map). no errors. everything works fine.

Code: Select all

with NewGRF:
Total Town Replacement Set nightly-r18
FIRS Industry Replacement Set nightly-r1337
But after trying to save and load game. error:
Image

A fatal NewGRF error has occurred:
E04:Incompatible version : Toral Town Replacement Set must be version release
3.02b / nightly r18 or higher to work with FIRS
OpenTTD 1.1.0/trunk r20675 or higher required.
Consult FIRS ReadMe:
http://bundles.openttdcoop.org/firs/releases/readme.txt

And openttd crashed ....

NewGRF list: (test)
Total Town Replacement Set nightly-r18
FIRS Industry Replacement Set nightly-r1337
same happens here.
so i guess so far the 0.4 is unplayable at this point ?

you're not required to use TTRS jointly with FIRS...

It should be fixed in latest nightly (at least the assertion error that triggers).

here is the test i just done:

OpenTTD nightly version: r20757

The GRF files:
er-1.PNG
er-1.PNG (3.76 KiB) Viewed 4422 times
- i start a new game, all works fine. no errors. i save it as Test1.sav
- i hit abandon game
- i hit load game
- resulting in this error now:
er-2.PNG
er-2.PNG (21.82 KiB) Viewed 4422 times
only change with the previous error is that it does not fully crash the game anymore now :)

Well, then all is well. There's nothing fixed in either FIRS or TTRS yet.

So currently: don't use TTRS with FIRS unless you plan not to save :)

just curious,
what can we expect, a fix in the 0.5 version ? (will take some months ? )
or a 0.4.1 quick fix ? (may take a few days/weeks ?)

or some fix in Ottd itself ? (will take ... ?)

Don't expect anything. It's done when it's done.
But as it seems that you know the problem is with FIRS and not TTRS, I'd very much appreciate if you could elaborate on the cause of it. That makes fixing within a short period of time much more likely

The problem with FIRS and TTRS should be fixed in OpenTTD r20766. Feel free to test that and report the results back to us.

FIRS 0.5 released. Available on Bananas and the first post of this thread.

I've play-tested FIRS 0.5.0, I think it's fun, I hope you enjoy it :D

More people are playing FIRS now and there has been a lot of useful feedback. Keep it coming :) Screenshots are also appreciated.

Full changelog below - three key things for this release were:
- consolidating industries which are similar. This makes the minimap easier to use. It also helps prevent broken cargo chains on rough / mountainous maps (where the game has trouble finding space for certain industries). It also prevents towns being spammed by multiple similar industries.
- providing more complete cargo chains for games starting in early years (before about 1840).
- balancing cargo chains better: farm chains have been adjusted; chemicals are more important; building materials chain introduced.

A little update....FIRS on Bananas was being a bit restrictive about what versions of OpenTTD it would work with. Planetmaker has updated the Bananas entry so that FIRS can be downloaded by stable OpenTTD ;)
