Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
In my opinion the set is allready carfully balanced and it´s absolutly ok that some traincars run faster than others, it´s part of the challange.
But next to the ore hoppers the stockcar is the slowest car in the set. It´s ok with ore I think, sometimes I just use ships(+multiplier) for this, but livestock is actually a very time sensitive cargo. A speed about 70 mph should be a good compromise.
So why dyes in boxcars?
There is nothing wrong with the tankers, I would like to have both. One thing I like most on the CanSet ist that it is rather cheap to refit traincars (keep it like this, please!), so sometimes it´s possible to collect some other cargo on the way back. To have different options to transport a cargo, fast loading specialized cars or more versatile cars, which take much longer to load 8lower capacity) is one of the best features in this set, at least in my opinion, very helpfull for that sort of return cargo.
Other reason is that the boxcar can run much faster and dyes are a type of cargo which is needed in many different places rather than in large quantities. Thus a train transporting dyes usually travel longer distances (my impression so far).

Here is the Express car i was talking about Oz-trans-lmd
Could you code the Passenger car to act like a caboose? Up into the 1950s A combine was a caboose, mail car and a coach.

Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
@Cody:
Till this set and the NARS2 set can use a coach as a caboose, there is a visual workaround: In real railroading, if the coach was the first car, followed by freight, a caboose was usually still used. They only did without the caboose when the coach was the last car.
Not the best thing, but it keeps it 'proper' till a coach acts as a caboose on freight trains.

Thanks, yes they do look pretty shiny when brand new; but it seems to be ONR's new colour scheme.DanMacK wrote:Nice work on the ONR SD75's. At first the yellow seemed a bit bright, ...
It's a bug – thank you for finding it. The express car is secondary to all this. The fact that the train carries cargo triggers the speed reduction if no van is found. The solution is to treat the express car the same as the van. I'll try to work out a proper solution though.as and comm Cody wrote: ... Express Car and speeds ...

Only the LW passenger coaches have dome cars when attached to other CPR/VIA engines. The F40PH has LRC, VIA-blue and the other grey (with blue stripe) ordinary passenger coaches. From 2009, it will get the 'Renaissance' coaches too. Currently all of them have no dome cars. I was wondering about this for a while, because we see all this nice TV-ads about Canadian train travel in observation cars. They try to tell us it is the ultimate train journey. It would be up to DanMacK to work out a solution; I can add dome/observation cars, but they would have to be drawn first.... F40PH-2 and dome cars ...
I'd say we add a modern livestock car for playability reasons. 70 mph / 112 km/h sounds reasonable. DanMacK, can you cook up a modern livestock car (full length 8/8th), so we can add a few more cows too; or shorten the early one to 6/8th and have the modern one 7/8th.... livestock car ...
There is no problem with adding dyes to the box car; I can do that.... dyes in box cars ...
There are no plans to change refit cost. Currently they are set at 10% of purchase cost for all cargo refits. It also feels cheap, because purchase costs are lower, but running costs are higher.
FYI : The loading amounts have been reviewed and adjusted across the board. The base load amount is 6 (= factor of 1) per time slice. This applies to wagons, like box cars, tankers.... loading amounts ...
The exceptions are :
. factor of 2 is used for early motor coaches (interurban); HW passenger coaches; some freight cars (express, reefer).
. 1½, 2 or 3 for hopper style freight cars (i.e. early, modern, late)
. 3 for modern motor coaches (Budd RDC); LW and bi-level passenger coaches; inter modal freight cars.
. 4 for very modern MUs (MR-90), all push pull train vehicles (to simulate faster turn around); container freight cars.
As a result, using container cars has an advantage over box cars or push-pull over normal passenger trains if you want to keep loading times to a minimum.
Any comments welcome. Play testing has shown good results so far.
Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
Actually, the 19th century (unheated) passenger car in NARS2 counts as a caboose.Railwaymodeler wrote:Till this set and the NARS2 set can use a coach as a caboose

Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
Is the Canadian set ECS compatible or not? My 0.3c file doesn't seem to be, but someone posted screenshots showing his 0.3c was quite ECS-compatible... I'm using OTTD, ITIM 2.30.
Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
I got it working with ECS by setting the second parameter to 128 (i.e. the set didn't auto-detect ECS as specified in the manual).
Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
The silver and blue cars are the same regardless of livery. The dome cars and dome observation can be used as-is behind the F40, I'd say only after 8 cars or so though. Possibly have a refit option to refit a passenger train to coach or dome observation end? The dark roofed silver and blue striped cars can go, and be replaced with the stainless roofed ones only.

Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
As to freight car speeds, was there an actual practice of running trains with live cattle slower? I know you have to be careful when hauling horses in a trailer. I imagine the folks at the stockyard got annoyed when an engineer let the slack run in too fast and a bunch of their cows were down in the cars with broken legs.
I find the slow early cattle cars a bit annoying in the game as I have to run separate trains to the farms instead of a mix of cattle cars and grain boxcars. Well, not "have to" but it works better from an operational standpoint. If it were up to me, they would be as fast as a boxcar of the same era.
As to ore cars, there were issues in the days of friction bearings with heavy cars. With the bearing capacity the limit, it was a tradeoff between capacity and speed- haul smaller loads faster, or bigger loads slower. I think some early heavyweight Pullman cars had three-axle trucks for this reason. For bulk commodities like coal and ore, the answer was obivous- heavy and slow.
When roller bearings came out, they were naturally much more expensive. So they only got used on the highest priority cars like passenger and express. Nowadays, I believe roller bearings are required on all cars used in interchange service. Even so, railroads use automated defect detectors (also called "hot box" detectors, the term dating from the friction bearing era) to detect the temperature increase in a failed bearing. They will actually radio the engine crew with a message, either "all ok" or "hot bearing on axle (number)."

I'm certain that development is ongoing by OzTransLtd and drawing by DanMack and possibly some others. Mentions of this ongoing work are in other topics, including the dedicated development topic for this set. And I think that version 3 might be available from the OpenTTD CoOp grf pack. (Don't quote me on that). However if it is there, I don't think it's the 0.3e version but the 0.3d version, as 0.3e did not work with the engine pool because OzTransLtd quite reasonably disabled this feature within his set.

Yeah I think I got it, Can Set 0.3d, though, kinda sucks that I cant get the Reversed Version of The trains (unless its just a edited picture in the screen shot on grfcrawler) and the invisable switcher thingy
I do hope that a new release will come out, maybe one stable enough for release on Bananas :3
Oh well, I do like that I can now play as GO transit , though, the next release should have the GO Transite MPI Train

Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
It didn't lack any features which 0.3e had as far as I know. The majority of versions after the one which introduced OTTD compatibility were bugfix versions.
Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
There is no problem. I've been doing some testing for OzTransLtd and there is some major coding work going on. Unfortunately, I'm not at liberty to discuss it further and I don't have an anticipated release date. Suffice it to say that what is happening will be quite impressive, just as soon as a few bugs are worked out. It will, in my oppinion, be well worth the wait.NekoMaster wrote:I dont care what the problem is, I want a copy of version 0.3 please!

Ok then, what I ment for reversed trains is
.=|A|""""""""|.|""""""""|B|=. [""""""""""].[""""""""""].[""""""""""].[""""""""""]
For Trains like the FP40I , GE P42 Genesis and other Non B Unit type trains (like the GP's)
Also, Im not asking for a release date, but, do you think you guy can get 0.4 out before Sept. 1st? I really want to try it out before I have to go back to school

Re: Canadian Trains Set [temporarily unavailable] ...
That has always been possible; buy the 2 engines, then ctrl-click the second one and turn it around. Also, the second engine can be placed on an empty (depot) line, then either attach it ctrl-cick or normally to the train. That is how it works in TTDPatch. I believe you need experimentalfeatures 'railvehmenu' and/or 'engineconvert' on in ttdpatch.cfg. OpenTTD may be different though.NekoMaster wrote: ... Reversed Engines ...
This works with all engines, except steam engines with tender, push-pull trains and special ones, like the FP7.
BTW, I have just noticed, that some alignments may be necessary with reversed engines (see screenshot).
That would really be pushing it; think Christmas break .... but there are absolutely no promises ...... do you think you guy can get 0.4 out before Sept. 1st? ...
