the pointed roof section in this picture would be ableto be seen from the track side in TTD's angle of view. Might not be that much, but just a suggestion that there's a bit of roof on the backside.

re: the base tiles, at this point, for the mockups I'm merely using the industrial stations base, but I can do a standard base tile if desired. are Finnish platforms mostly gravel, asphalt or concrete? or should I do all 3?

Central is designed to be completely modular, yes. Also bear in mind tracks are closer together in reality than in TTD ;)
Well, i'd say all three standard tiles should be done. Then standard tiles should be used as station bases. And DanMacK, you can see the platform types from tracking table:

Passenger platforms:

Small 1x2 tile low-level wood platform w/sign (halt)
Low-level wood platform w/light pole/station sign (1-side left/up)
Low-level wood platform w/light pole/station sign (1-side right/down)
Low level wood platform w/light pole/station sign (2-side)
Low level wood platform (1-side)
Low level wood platform (2-side)
Low-level wood platform end slides (1-and 2-sides)
Low-level wood platform level crossing (2-side)
Low-level wood platform overpass (2-side)
Low-level wood platform underpass (2-side)
Low-level asphalt platform (rock edges) (2-side)
Low-level asphalt platform (rock edges) (2-side)
Low-level asphalt platform (rock edges) (1-side left/up)
Low-level asphalt platform (rock edges) (1-side right/down)
Low-level asphalt platform w/light pole/station sign (1-side left/up)
Low-level asphalt platform w/light pole/station sign (1-side right/down)
Low-level asphalt platform level crossing (2-side)
Low-level asphalt platform overpass (2-side)
Low-level asphalt platform underpass (2-side)
Wood-roofed low-level asphalt platform (center tile between rails, no rail at tile) (Kuopio style) (To be used with low-level asphalt-platform (1-side))
Concrete-roofed low-level asphalt platform (center tile between rails, no rail at tile) (Kouvola style) (To be used with low-level asphalt platforms (1-side))
Low-level asphalt platform, other side narrow wood platform (2-side)
Low-level asphalt platform, other side narrow wood platform (2-side) (reversed)
High-level asphalt platform (Helsinki style) (1-side left/up)
High-level asphalt platform (Helsinki style) (1-side right/down)

High-level concrete platform (Metropolitan area style) 2-side, other side fenced
High-level concrete platform (Metropolitan area style) 2-side, other side fenced (reverse)
High-level concrete platform (Metropolitan area style) (center tile between rails, no rail at tile)
High-level concrete platform underpass
High-level concrete platform overpass
High-level asphalt platform underpass

Cheers :) I think I'll fiddle with the roof colors a bit, too brown now. I could start new one soon so is there wishes what I could do or can I just pick something from the list and tell it here so someone else doesn't start the same station/platform?

Methinks shading wouldn't be a bad idea. It would look so flat in game. The graphics do look very nice though! :D

A bit if shading and variance in the colours wouldn't hurt, true. Just to make it look a little bit more "busy" if that makes sense.

Looks very good however. gettign the shapes is the hardest part by far. I was also thinking about something for Helsinki Central. I've been playing around with the Czech stations set, and they've got a large central station building that's both buildable in parts as well as a drag-and-drop 10X2 that's hard coded. Possibly an option for Central?

That's certainly good to have two options for central station. And also, parts have central station platform without roofs and with roofs as nowadays.

Well, I haven't thought it, but, i will give it a try when i have finished other sprites on my works are finished. :) Currently on my working list:

Semaphores
Hm1/Sm7/Dm13 (SNCF class B82500 bi-mode MU w/ VR new livery)
Rail & overhead wire catenary revisions from CS Railset

Also Heightmaps for Finnish scenarios.

Below finished new system level crossings, default setting, used 1980 onwards.
Also catenary poles for 25 kV overhead electrification, default catenary from 1968 onwards, and at this moment, forever.
(railtypes feature on future OpenTTD will feature 16 different custom railtypes, so when that comes out, we'll have alternative for default catenary, 2x25 kV, introduced 2003 onwards.)

I made two height catenary poles for test, which is better for our purposes.

By the way, about platforms..

Well done indeed :)

I worked with my station aswell, found out that it was too high, 10px high so I needed to lower the roof. I remember DanMack said 8px would be enough. I did some shading also
