Maybe it escaped your attention that there are already faster and more powerful trains since decades?
Electric - Fastest but Not As powerful
Diesel - Would Provide the Most power but the Least Speed
Even in the "future" this will be as unrealistic as it is today. Electric drive offers the most power at all, for single locomotives it´s in the 9000 hp area, and modern EMUs often offer a total power of more than 10,000 hp.
OTOH, even modern diesels (with asynchronous AC drives) offer significantly less power, simply because it has to be generated "on-board" but maximum allowable axle weight puts a limit to it, whereas electrics get as much power they need via the catenary system. And BTW, speed is depending from gearing, i.e. only because being a "diesel" doesn´t mean to be inevitably slower. In fact, the only disadvantage of electric traction is the initial cost of catenary. However, with even higher prizes for diesel fuel this drawback will quickly fade away, and even today it´s not in existence in many parts of the world where the main railway lines are already electrified.
Gas Turbine
Had been experimented with in the past and found totally unsuitable for the needs of railway usage. Will not be used "in the future" again for sure.
Attachments:
These look quite outdated (1980s) but not "futuristic" (whatever this means).
Camasutra
Well, at least the brand name is slightly interesting, but also not very futuristic either, given an age of almost 2000 years of the real thing. Maybe it would be an idea to make your trains 7 parts, according to the 7 parts of the
original.

Ok fine whatever, So i was wrong and though electric was rlly fast but not very powerful and thought diesell was slow on purpose.
Anyways, as for the gas tubine, the only reason why it was failure is becuz turbines get damaged when stoped and started frequntly and also they dont have the chance to Spin b4 the train gets moving. I have thought of an idea to prevent that problem from occuring.
The Turbine left in Neutral and a Starter will spin it using auxxilery power, while tahts happening teh Burners or whatever are warmed up to get going, then a Sensor will detect when the Turbine is spining fast enough to be kept going by the burners. When the train needs to go up hill or something a large gear box will switch to an apropite gear so the engine wont kill it self. When the train needs to stop, the Turbine is Put in neutral to spin freely but will still be connected to a Small Generator to Power the Starters.
It might seem a little complicated but at least this idea will allow it run smoothly with less repairs.
Also, Im a ammy at TTD spriting so Im not good at making them look futureistic. and btw, as far as I know, most HS speed trains dont have the capibilty to haul cargo, they my have the power but that power is put forward into speed for , well, High Speed Trains! : P
Dont worry, ill come back after I have some better ideas, and I cant make the Super Trains rlly rlly fast, as then what good would the Maglevs be? Super trains are ment to be fast and Powerful for both Passenger transport and Cargo Transport .
And although your comment did tick me off a bit, it did help so i could figure out better specs for newer trains.

Well, economical usage of electric locomotives or EMUs by means of a catenary network depends on quite a number of parameters, internal and external. A scenario like that we have in Europe (densely populated urban regions, fine-grained networks, well-distributed electric power supply, high travel speeds even for freight, relatively short trains, highly-saturated tracks, ...) might not work out in sparsely populated countries like the US or Australia.
Even the cost for building and maintenance of catenary may vary widely under different basic conditions. Unfortunately, it´s very hard to get reliable information regarding costs in the railway business, but for some of the new highspeed railway lines over here (French TGV, German ICE) this is known because of public debate.
E.g., for Germany, cost distribution for the highspeed lines Würzburg-Hannover and Mannheim-Stuttgart are said to have been as follows:
- superstructure and line installations (
catenary, signalling, communication, ...): 22%
- tunnels: 36%
- viaducts: 7%
- earth moving: 13%
- structural works: 6%
- purchase of land: 3%
- "other" (planning, environmental protection, compensations, financing, ...): 13%
I think cost for catenary should have been around 8-10%.
Likewise, maintenance cost for catenary is disproportionally lower than for track maintenance.
As for "safety issues" and "power failure", well ..., a couple of years ago there was an almost complete power failure in Switzerland affecting the railways, but at least nobody was injured.

Michael

This is rubbish. The whole topic smells bad. Backseat moderation should be allowed when I can't read something because it's so badly written. Stop doing this to my language!</rant>
Anyway...
Future Sets have been discussed a thousand times before (I "worked" on the last one) and have been disbanded; the sprites you've posted need tonnes of work, your train names are dog (Camasutra? Are you sexually frustrated?) and your attitude also strikes me as a bit internety (you're quite abrasive but take offence at being questioned, basically).
Get your head down and start working on your set, and earn your respect, then you can question the attitude of vets like MB et al.

Ok, p*** off, i dont care, I know a suck but you didnt have to say it like that, and i could care less if im talking to a Vet or Mod or Adim whatever, ive told off many ppl higher then me in the past and this is no exception.
Im mostly a Digital artist (Flash MX 2004 or CS3 or Photo Shop CS3), not a spritest, so dont belame me if i suck.
Those sprites where not actually for using as a sprite, just to give ppl a rough idea of what i invisoned.
Also im working on better names right now like the GPT-1100 or the EDM-2100 which will definatly be better then the CST type trains.
And i have this kinda attitude bececause most ppl look down on the little ppl like me and many pthers and thats pisses me off. Im just simply trying to throw a idea out there

Yes. We look down on people who are either too lazy or too incompetent to install and use a spellchecker. Welcome to the real world. Welcome to the world where managing not to sound like an incompetent 12-year-old twit is an achievement approximately on par with managing not to soil yourself.

It's "could
not care less", and I could no longer care less what you do on these forums. Because nothing you have managed to labouriously peck out with your one-and-a-half fingers, nor anything you will henceforth attempt to peck out with same, will ever again (dis)grace the phosphor-coated glass plate it pleases me to call my screen.

Hey, I'm trying to offer you some friendly advice re: how not to upset the likes of MB, DaleStan, etc.
If you're just going to abuse me then fine, but you won't get much further in this thread if your attitude carries on like that...

WOW!
It truly amazes me that all most all of you shot this kid down in flames, there are more post’s on this topic about bad spelling and grammar than anything to do with the topic at hand, tell me if none of you where interested in this topic then why are there so many posts or is it that you have frustration in your lives and this kid seems like a easy target to take your aggression out on, If you didn’t want to entertain this idea or are “offended” by his English then you should all have just ignored him and gone on with other things, flaming a newbie that’s trying to offer ideas to people that are supposed to be his peers is like taking his face rubbing it in the ground and saying we are better than you, let me tell you something your really not, just who the hell do you guys think you are, NOT many people still play this game or did play this game in the grand scale of things and you just took one of your own kind and embraced him beyond what was nessairy, so I’d just like to apologize to NekoMaster I’m not trying to embrace you even more than you probably feel by arguing on your behalf I’ve never even talked to you, I’m just sick of snob’s like these and you know what if you want to kick me for sticking up for someone go ahead at least then I can get back to playing the game that we all enjoy apparently, If you want to keep this game alive and not just for yourself then perhaps you should think about encouraging new members instead of putting them down all the time, what do you think the chance’s are of this guy posting again hhmm or do you just don’t care, I guess you just think he's bad rubbish and you don’t need him or even me….dam engineers just where do they get off eh

Ok, time to get on topic then.
To make a set you need:
- Graphics
- Code
For Graphics you need an artist who needs photographs of what to draw.
For Code you need a coder who needs stats. And, a coder needs sprites to code.
I see you got the stats, now you gotta get the sprites. You got two options:
- Draw them yourself (see my sig for a drawing tutorial)
- Give artists enough information to draw them and hope they got time (and enthusiasm) to do so.
I suggest you either start drawing or start making a tracking table. Alternatively you might plan to use sprites already drawn by other artists, in that case you have to ask them permission to use the graphics in your set.

Point me to one single post that says we aren't interested in the idea itself, as opposed to being not interested in helping someone who can't (or won't) use a spell-checker.
Cannich wrote:flaming a newbie that’s trying to offer ideas to people that are supposed to be his peers

Cannich wrote:I’m just sick of snob’s like these
Newsflash: We don't think we're better than people who apparently think "people" is spelt "ppl". Rather, we have, from long experience, learned that when such people ask for "help", they really mean "do all the work for me while I take all the credit." We don't generally appreciate such arrangements, and tend to avoid them.
Cannich wrote:If you want to keep this game alive and not just for yourself then perhaps you should think about encouraging new members
Like the second and third posts in this thread, where we, quite politely, encouraged him to obey the rules concerning the (ab)use of English in this forum?
Cannich wrote:what do you think the chance’s are of this guy posting again
*rummage*
I'd say that's approximately 100%. Since he did so, well after my previous post in this thread and well before yours.
You new at this, so I'll give you a hint: You aren't going to change our behaviour. Even the moderators have quite the fight on their hands when they want to change our behaviour, and they wield the ban-stick. You're best off either 1) "helping" it (see above) before we show up, or 2) convincing it to post in proper English before we get out the flamethrowers.
Purno's listed the requirements for a set; he's got them close enough to correct for the purposes of this thread. It's a little bit light on the coding side, but that's to be expected, and there's no point in coding until you have sprites.

2 Things:
- There was this topic about backseat moderating,
- @ NekoMaster: There are some good posts in this thread, learn from them.

And look at how people (who are here much longer) interact. It will help you get around (telling us that you have told off important people doesn't really impress people on the internet.

) .
And:

I could give a lesson about
this sometimes but I have this feeling that it doesn't help.

Ok could you all p*** off now about the spelling stuff, I didn't do it on purpose, and I do have a spell checker, and also sometimes to reducing typing amount/time I use shortened words (ie people -> ppl, what -> wat, because -> becuz , etc)
I sometimes forget to spell check a few words especially when I'm kinda hurrying or something.
And I'm sorry for being a a** hole the other day, i was really pissed off cause it was a rainy day and Some prick got into an accident while i was crossing at a intersection and then he came out and started to blame it on me saying "WTF do you think your doing! You riding the wrong way s***head!" and it took me awhile to get him to shut up an to listen but even then he still wouldn't understand that I was on the SIDE WALK and a cross walk and you can go any direction on those, he must have been a crack head.
Anyways, if you could please forgive me,

really, I would like to Release a newer and better idea, I had a sketch drawn up but I left my Sketch pad in my locker : (
Anyways, here they are.

OK!
Sounds like you got your act together. Just a friendly suggestion ... take your time when typing into these forums ... there's no hurry here ... we've been around a while and we'll be around for a whole lot longer as long as orudge avoids crashing the hard drive.
Now ... I have to ask ... What city/town do you live in? Your drivers sound like some of the ones we have here in Saint John.

Come to think of it, that rain sounds familiar too.

Get a good chat client (MSN?) and you can keep in touch with Jesse in real time. If Jesse is into TTDX, look into setting up some network games.

Good to see your spelling has improved Neko
Anyways, do you plan on drawing totally fantasy / made up trains, or use references of existing trains / concepts? In the latter case, could you show us some references of what you had in mind?
