I'm not sure that a tranmission would really count when naming... the actual engine is a diesel, so that would make it a dmu. Logically.

EMU is an

ELECTRICALY POWERED as in its power comes from electrical soure , external or batteries

MULTIPLE UNITS as in more than one car per single train ... they can be powercars or trailers



from metro cars to TGV/ICe all are EMU


As a sidenote ... FEVE (spain) has some EMU's with hidrawlic transmission and FIAT pendolinos have mechanical transmission (the electric motors are under the frame)
