[OTTD] Lartigue Monorail Project
In 1888, the Listowel & Ballybunion Railway opened in Ireland. This line was unique in the fact it was a monorail. It lasted until 1924, and while it barely made a profit, it proved that the technology was sound.
This started set as a whim, but I'm committed to making this a valid set.
A few sprites have been drawn, and more will be posted soon.

Awesome! This is a project that can make the monorails function be used in a much more realistic way: this network was mostly built on level ground, like the monorails in TTD, and unlike monorails are mostly used today (on elevated tracks).
I think the front lights in the / and view can be bigger, since those things were pretty massive IIRC.

Aren't those sprites a little oversized?

Well, it was designed to be cheaper to build than conventional rail, which would be its advantage here. Although it will have a high running cost and relatively low speed, so it'll be a challenge.Hyronymus wrote:Intriguing stuff DanMack but I can't help but thinking what the advantge of this system would've been .
Not really. They may need to be a bit wider, but they're set lower on the tile as well.oberhümer wrote:Aren't those sprites a little oversized?

Watch that headlight!
Re: [OTTD] Lartigue Monorail Project
That's not a headlight, thats a complete lighthouse!
Re: [OTTD] Lartigue Monorail Project
The sheer size surely lit the track ahead well but I wonder if the drivers could possibly see anything beyond the back of the 'lighthouse' .FooBar wrote:That's not a headlight, thats a complete lighthouse!

There's video of it working on British Pathe's site...
http://www.britishpathe.com/video/along-the-line
NO "Lighthouse" on it there though
Doesn't look to be the smoothest mode of transport of the time however

Re: [OTTD] Lartigue Monorail Project
Well, given that the last post on the topic was in 2012, which is 11 years ago, you can be pretty sure that it is dead.
Also, DanMacK who created this was last active here in September 2022, a solid 7 months ago, so the forum does not seem to be a high priority for him.
