Hi.
When I play OTTD I think the game starts with too many cities/industries, even with the very low selection. It should be like 1/3rd or 1/4th of the current amount. I like to build routs of some length,
A thought could be a editable number of maximum starting cities/industries. With fluctuating economy more industries would arrive over time.
Also, the daylength should be part of the game...
Great game though, good work.

Re: Less Cities/industries
There already is an option to select the maximum number of towns on a map. Just select the Custom option from the pull-down menu in the World Generation dialog and type in a number.
If you also disable that you can have multiple similar industries per town and that industries of the same type can be built close to each other, combined with a very low number of industries, I think you're close enough.
With these settings, 10 towns on a 256x256 map gives me 10 towns and 10 industries.

Re: Less Cities/industries
Ah, exactly what I suggested, that was fast
Sorry, dont know how I missed that one...
I'll play with this a little. Although, I still would like to see a maximum initial industries as a custom option also. But as you said, this brings me a lot closer to what I want.
Thnx.

Re: Less Cities/industries
Did a test.
30 cities with all ECS vectors give potentially 1020 industries if I did not calculate wrong. It seems like there could be one of every industry in every city, but the result is a little less. When the map was generated the counter for industry generation was at about 2800. Don’t know how many actually ended up in game, did not count. A little few cities on the biggest map size and a little too many industries initially.
Did turn of what you suggested also.
I would like to limit the initial amount to, say 50, and then now industries could arrive over time.

Re: Less Cities/industries
When I use the ECS and only use the first vector, and may be the basic, when the game starts the map is much "cleaner". I then add more ECS vectors over time and new industries are then built from time to time throughout the game.
I think this make the game more "realistic" as the world seems more dynamic. I'm thinking, why should there be thousands of industries with no hope of transportation the next hundred years?
Doing this more or less solve my problem.
Still, this means I only get the basic type of industries when the game starts, an custom option on the amount of industries, like on the cities would be great, at I could then put in all the vectors and start with like 0-3 of all the different industries initially. Over time, when these are all connected, new industries would have been built.
So, custom initial amount of industries is still a suggestion ;D
