Donate to the forums! [£536.45 / £535 raised]
Re: Donate to the forums! [£520.17 / £535 raised]
Glad to see the amount updated. I was worried that we'd never make it
Re: Donate to the forums! [£520.17 / £535 raised]
Let me fill up to the amount of 535 pounds then.
Just wondering, would that be € 5,- for me to spend with the current pound : euro rate ?

Heh, more like €17, I'm afraid. We came very near to £1 = €1, but didn't quite hit it.Hyronymus wrote:Just wondering, would that be € 5,- for me to spend with the current pound : euro rate ?

If there's some need for an additional server hosting, I operate my own server (unlimited traffic, 100MBit/s connection, AMD 64 X2 5600+ Dual Core, 400GB Hard Disk, 2 GB RAM, Server Location Germany, 72 GBit/s overall bandwidth to all major european peers) and the box is pretty much idle. If there's some need for hosting (SSH/PHP/custom stuff available), just PM me.

Thanks, Hyronymus.
Thanks for the offer, Felicitus. We do have a very good server however, it's just paying for it that was the issue. In general, I prefer nowadays to operate my own servers, following mixed experiences in the past when others have offered to host the forums. But again, thank you for the offer!

I understand that - I also want to have "control" over my stuff
But when there should be a need for something, maybe only temporary, feel free to ask.

Yay, we have exceeded our target by £1.45! Thanks once again to all the people who have donated. Even though we've reached our target, remember that donations throughout the year are still appreciated! We should now hopefully be good for the rest of the year, though.
Cheers,
Cheers,

That aught to be rather good, having earned enough allready in february!
May i enquire as to how much revenue you manage from the google ads?

Alcohol is not the answer, it just makes you forget the question.

Google do not allow me to reveal that. Note that the £535 raised does not cover the entire cost of the server, Google tends to make up most of the rest.

Because that's what they say the rules are, and they say they won't pay if one does reveal such information (well, assuming they find out, I guess).

How does that work though? There must be plenty of organisations that make money from google ads and have to reveal that information on their finances - and many of those finances then become public. Strange.

Technically, they don't also like the discussion of adverts, since they don't want to draw "unnatural" attention to them. So I may perhaps suggest this conversation ends for now, as advertising revenue is also somewhat essential to the survival of these forums.

Sure. I was just curious rather than prodding you to release it.orudge wrote:Technically, they don't also like the discussion of adverts, since they don't want to draw "unnatural" attention to them. Although thinking about, surely they're drawing "unnatural" attention to something by urging folks to not discuss it. Hmmm, this gets confusing.
Thanks for the info.
