Congrats Lifeblood!
Although the model designation I've seen is MX636.
These locomotives are the largest currently operating in Greece. They were also the last overseas locomotives built for the Hellenic Railway. Two of the units have been wrecked, whilst the other 8 were rebuilt. One was sent over to the US for rebuild, the other 7 were rebuilt on home turf.
Your turn

That´s correct, both http://alcoworld.railfan.net/a-501ser.htm (your ref page) and http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/gr/die ... 0/pix.html give that model number.
BTW, the photographer of your picture offers three CD-ROMs with special Alco/MLW sounds of those greek engines:
- Alco power in Greece,
- more Alco power in Greece,
- Greek Alco summer 1997
PS: next round I´m in again.
regards
Michael

I knew the greeks had some ALCos but I didn't know about this model. I tought they were earlier versions.
Michael,
Do you have these CD's? How are the recordings, any good?

I already wondered why you didn´t make it. I thought you knew the greek flotilla? (-> if not, railfaneurope is your friend!?)The Irish wrote:I knew the greeks had some ALCos but I didn't know about this model. I tought they were earlier versions.

No, I don´t have one of them but they´re said to be very good recordings (although something special [*]) and have thus been reviewed in a couple of railway magazines.

I was revising my answer, and I guess I forgot to change the designation. My apologies.

In all fairness, I'll be away for the next few days and I won't be able to devout the required attention to this thread. So, I pass.

Class is wrong, sadly, and so, therefore is the difference from the predecessor.
I'll give you a point for Derby though, and the Peak monicker...
So two points to Akalamanaia so far

Sorry, both of these are wrong (at least to the answers I have - I might not know about the wheel arrangement setup you're using but I think you're wrong).

Since the nickname was right, i'll give rest of the details a second quess.
Class 46
Diffrence to Class 45 is that it has Brush traction motors & generator, instead of Crompton Parkinson equipment as on the Class 45.
They were intorduced on year 1961.
I still don't know name of the livery unfortunately.

For what it's worth Dave, I see a two wheel pilot truck, I think at either end, and two six wheel trucks in between them. So, a 2-Co-Co-2.
EDIT: If it is a Peak class, then maybe Wikipeida is wrong. I thought it was somewhere in the mid 40s myself:

I've always been brought up to know that as a 1Co-Co1, but since you've got the right idea (it's got 16 wheels..) you can have the point
.
