[WIP/REL] Malaysian Railways trainset: custom sounds or not?

Post by pagani_zonda »

Image

This will be the thread for all future developements of the malaysian trainset.
At the moment, of all the trains available, i plan to release the locomotives of the set first, then the rolling stock.

Many thanks to the MTS team, who made the models. Their site is available here.

Here is a complete list of what i plan to release (no steamers, KL rapid transit and such sorry!)

All stock will be available in Narrow and Standard gauge, though narrow gauge stock will only be available at a later date.

Note: the trains will be released in two versions: one with custom sounds and accompanying .dat files for their sound, and one with the standard locomotion sounds.

Locomotives

Class 22 -- Not started
Class 23 -- Not started
Class 24 -- Not started
Class 25 -- WIP
Class 26 -- Beta released!
Image
Class 29 -- Beta released!
Image

Passenger Stock

Third Class -- Beta out
Air-conditioned economy class -- Beta out
Air-conditioned first class -- Beta out

Other stock

Parcel van -- Beta released
Power generator car -- Beta released
Tanker wagons -- not started
Tanker wagons (another type) -- not started
Log flatcars -- not started
Bogied container flatcars -- not started

The complete list of available malaysian railway stock is available here.

Now, a more complete set including passenger cars is also out. Enjoy!

Just one guestion, is this going to be one of those MSTS2Loco conversions,
or is it going to be one of those sets that actually tries to make it's locomotives fit with Locomotion's shading?

If it's the latter, it is a great idea. If its the former, the forum is filled to brim with poorly rendered MSTS2Loco conversions, and even though there are people who are willing to use them just because someone makes them, it doesn't mean absolutely everybody who can use that tool has to jump on the bandwagon.

And, some of us here are really getting full of them, cause they don't really fit in with Locomotion with their poor shading not to mention quite usually the converter isn't the maker of the model, so basically its a no-effort job with the MSTS2Loco tool.

And that annoys those of us, who actually take the effort to model their own trains, tweak with the rendering parameters to perfection just to make their train fit in with Loco just that bit more.

wow the blue tiger.. i wanted to model it for a long time.. but never began..

i understand what akalamanaia means. we modelers have a hard time sometimes.. the converters are too fast. :D but the quality gets better so i don´t have a problem with a malaysian conversion
i did all models/renderings/textures myself. no conversions.

seelenquell.pytalhost.com has been reactivated from 16/07/28 till 18/05/31.. now it´s deactivated. at least there..

yep its going to be a MSTS2LOCO conversion. Anyway i have started with a conversion or two with some of the models, but the length is too long, and colour is horribly off too.

i think the colour being off is not that it comes out black, but the colouring is bitmap-ish, even with the correct palette file used (lomoveh.pal), nothing like what vehicles in LoMo are like. Its that colouring that is the problem.

with regards to the length, i'm still finding a way to shorten it sufficiently so that it fits. i believe using the distance adjustment slider is the method to adjust the length? if not, somebody please correct me.

Anyway Illegal Alien, if i didn't remember wrongly, in one of your posts you mentioned about some program to inspect the MSTS models beforehand? What was the name of that program? Is it useful?

Use Shape File Manager to resize the models beforehand. Use trial and error as to which re-sizing factors to use as i know for a fact me and IA use different ones so its up to you really.

this is looking to turn into an argument. So i'm putting my foot down now.

Please don't argue. There will always be the conversions vs 3d modelled... just live with it ;)

So - malaysian trains?

If you want quality, i want to render them, but you need to code them ;)

I am using the "Quick" rendering way, the normal way i usualy do, quality is a bit lower but still good enough ;)

If is the same as in MSTS - if there are models you do not like, don't use them!

If there are models of locos and car you like, but you dont like the quality - go and make better models of these locos and cars...

Naturally are the models of Seelenquell better than my MSTS2Loco conversions (but I dont have a problem to mix the Seelenquell trains with my conversions) - but I like to play swiss trains - an there are really no swiss trains for Locomotion (the original swiss trains from the game I don't like, the conversions are better!) - how long do you think should I wait if one of your modeler Gods like to make swiss models???

Seelenquell was nice enough to make a few swiss models of locos wich are not availaible as MSTS models (and I hope he will still do the Re 4/4 I sometimes in the future) - but now I think it is a better idea if the modellers make the trains which are not availaible as MSTS models in a quality good enough for an satisfying conversion. And than the modelers can replace the conversions with her high-quality models...

Without the coversions, there will be no train from Austria, no train from Italy and only a few standard gauge trains from Switzerland.

Not all people are fans of dutch trains... :P :P

I find it therefore rather impolite as you behave here. Where is your problem - if anybody has the choice between a maybe Seelenquell modell of a Deutsche Bahn 140 and a conversation of the same loco - he will take the Seelenquell model - because quality wins.

But better a well made conversion of a loco than no model of these loco for Locomotion.

So I dont see your problem. If you model a loco which is already converted by somebody else - he has a problem and maybe will be angry, because your model will displace his! But completely sure not in reverse.

And I say - without all these fine conversions (yes - there are also ugly ones!!) I would have much less fun with Locomotion as I have actually!
Ok i thought this was the thread for the Malaysian Railways developement, not a thread for people to argue about conversion quality and such matters.

Anyway, i am not really sure how to use the Shapeviewer program very well. I need a little tutorial on that...

BTW Illegal Alien, did you manange to resize the model until it fits without being cut off? Anyway, I like your rendering. Could you teach me how to render the sprites in the same way as you did? Thank You

Sorry for the double post, but here is an update on the project progress. In the picture is the KTM Class 29 locomotive.

As can be seen, the train is currently MUCH too long...i am unsure of how to resize the locomotives. Could someone help me with the resizing?

Sorry no MSTS models of malaysian steamers available yet, neither do i know how to make such models. If you, or anyone, for that matter, can refer me to any website where such models are available, please inform me. Thank s in advance

Hello!

Malaysia have (or had) some railbuses, similar to Ikarus bus, they were built by GANZ-MAVAG and Ikarus, it has Ikarus 200-series bodywork on a railways chassis. I posted it on other topics which is related to Hungary, Ikarus bus or MAV (Hungarian railways), but now i don't know where the pics are...

I used Shape File Manager to adjust the length of the MSTS model.
