[release] light rail trolleys

Post by barney_5uk »

I have converted some of the trolleys for use as light rail vehicles on narrow gauge tracks. All are using electified rails.

Re: Screenshots / [release]: more vehicle

Post by barney_5uk »

Sorry, my screenshots for Locomotion don't work - I don't know why not but that's another issue for another section.

Release: another trolley for narrow gauge tracks, this is a Be 4/4 coupled by two sections and made for narrow gauge tracks

It's all right - here is a screenshot. You see these are the trolleys built in the game but converted to run on narrow gauge tracks: :)

That's really cool. :D

Makes me think if I should make my Green Line tram for the NEC set the same way.

Keep up the good work!
I may be the lesser Steve, but I am not smitten.
I'll change this sig in time....

Just curious before downloading them. Would these vehicles override and replace the trams?

Re: Trams

Post by barney_5uk »

No, they are all additions to trams. You can put them in your objects folder and they will not overwrite any of the trams.

This mod is just made for making tramways or light rail vehicles which are running on tracks separated from streets - the way in which much of todays tramways are operating.

But you will still keep your tramways where you can lay tracks for in streets.

Re: Green Line

It would be the best if tram tracks and narrow gauge tracks could be combined, so that trams could drive on streets in city centres and on their own tracks where there is enough space for - but I think this is impossible to implement within this game.

I don´t think it would work. The rails on streets are closer to each other than the other track. But maybe... I hope it works.

I like the idea, but are these converted trams ment to be a whole new concept next to the tram itself? Or is it just a tram riding on narrow tracks?

Because in my opinion, if it is ment to be that last ting, its not realistic. Bacause (most) trams use the same rail with as trains.... so not the narrow tracks.

Re: Tramms on standard track

Post by barney_5uk »

Well, I can try to put trams on standard tracks, but I think therefore I should have to create larger tram models and I hate this because I have no experience at all in making new graphics for vehicles.

The idea behind setting trams on narrow gauge tracks was to realize trolley systems connecting towns while running on separate tracks. Sure, most of those trolley systems of today are using standard tracks, but in the past, you had more of them on narrow gauge tracks and I just wanted to create the classic overland trolley system of Central Europe. In Germany, there are only two of them left in their origin, all others were closed or converted to standard tracks. I think also, there were some of them in the past in Netherlands and Belgium?

I have tried to create a trolley for standard tracks and I think it looks also well...

I think, there is more potential in this idea I thought myself.

What we need are Interurbans... the North American equivalent of that BE 8/8 Railcar thing. They would be a LIFESAVER in the North American levels that only have small towns (also one of the many reasons they existed IRL)

Those aren't a bad choice... It would be nice to have proper North American ones too, though, a good boxcab loco as well for freight :)
