Finally, my very own screenshot thread to share some impressions from my OpenTTD games. Since this is my first post, I wrote a short intro after the break.

I remember playing the original Transport Tycoon whenever I stayed overnight at the house of a friend. By playing I mean getting up at 5 in the morning so I could play for 4 hours before breakfast. That was around 1995 when I was 10. If I remember correctly, my networks usually were just a bunch of A -> B lines, connecting all the different industries. I also used to connect most of the towns on the map with buses and probably used no signals at all.

Somewhere around 200X, I stumbled upon OpenTTD. It was before the existence of Open*FX and I remember buying a used TTD CD-ROM to get the required files onto my PC. That’s when I learned about all the intricate mechanics and detail this game offers. I was impressed with the myriads of extensions, patches and beautiful NewGRFs this community creates and dabbled around a little bit. But alas, it was a busy time in my life and I soon moved on to other things.

Two month ago, shortly after I beat Gunpoint, the urge to play OpenTTD struck again. After scouring through the various graphic and patch threads, I decided on taking the easy road and going with the excellent OpenTTD Spring 2013 Patch Pack and a rather long list of NewGRFs. After 6 games, each lasting less than 5 in-game years, trying out different train sets and NewGRFs, finally learning where NewObjects are in the TT menu ( :x ), I started No. 7 two days ago and that’s where the first screenshots are from.

Game 7 - Entry 1

In the year of 1945, the town of Elsau saw the rise of the aptly named "Elsau Global Trans Co". With the help of a bank loan, it started to provide public transportation to larger cities in the vicinity of Elsau. To increase the company's growth, it soon expanded to the lucrative business of transporting raw materials, starting with oil. Shortly the bank loan was amortized and the company started to turn a small profit.

Vehicles in service:
  • 6x PCC streetcar
  • 3x ATP Primus Tanker Truck
  • 2x EMD F-Unit (Diesel)

Ok, I've already given up on Game 7. Due to the discovery of some additional NewGRFs and the release of Spring Patch 1.7.80 I'll start a new one, Game 8.

Here are some last shots, just before the world of Game 7 goes dark forever. :)

Game 7 - Entry 2

In the years following 1945, the company focused on growing the existing services vertically and expanding into additional industries. The refined chemicals and gasoline from Vich Oil Refinery were transported to near Gänsbrunnen Machine shop and Villette Metal Workshop, where various supplies were manufactured, which in turn helped local industries increase their output. A new hub near Vernier Heights collected livestock from the regional farms, that was then loaded onto trains and brought to Intragna Stockyard.

Game 8 - Entry 1

In the year of 1945, Einsiedeln Logistik GmbH was founded in the town of, well, Einsiedeln. It's mision statement was serving Einsiedeln's people and businesses and bring prosperity to the region. A hefty sum was spent on infrastructure, which resulted in a nice stretch of mainline, starting just east of Einsiedeln and heading west.

The first project was servicing a local Brick Works with coal to produce building materials for Einsiedeln's Builders Yard.
