Re: [OTTD] Chrill's Screenshots [Updated: 20 April]

Post by Chrill »

Wrong how? As in using left-lane traffic, or in having signals in the middle? :P

If the first, then no; Swedish railways run on the left.
If the latter, then; doesn't that also have to do with which side the vehicles drive at?

Well, signals are very rarely placed in between the tracks. That's all that I'm saying :)

Thanks for the heads-up, Ameecher. I'm always striving towards a tad bit of reality

Following here are three screens, two of which are simply re-designs of existing, already packed, train stations. This is obviously to increase their capacity.

In 1964, Trans Advance realised that with their extended train service, some train stations had to get rebuilt to prevent massive delays.

Also, in 1967, the city of Penbridge finally got connected to TACSI in order to improve ratings in the town as well as, obviously, let more passengers get from A to B more smoothly! :) The small town of Malstow also got connected during this extension. This is where the first AM10s entered service!

With the timetabling function, you could time your trains in a way that they would not queue up behind each other like this.
It is a bit tedious, but it works. you just need to set local trains and express trains total schedule time to the same, and then have the express train departing later, so that it catches up just before reaching the final destination.
Alternatively, you could do it in a way that you need a passing loop only at a specific place and the express would always overtake there (eg if the total schedule time of the express is exactly half that one of the local)

It's a really neat function, that schedule thingy.

I mean to schedule trains on my network but it's a bit complicated to implement later and needs to be done as you go along. Especially with 180 trains running around I have pretty much sod all idea where they are going most of the time. It would help sort out problems in a number of locations but nevermind!

No Chrill, in TTD, not in real life! I agree, timetables are a sham in real life, but I know you can do better :].

I'm happy to have my trains stack, as that's the norm here in Sydney

In other news, I like those before and after shots (a nice format, to be sure), and the third screenie - what a great looking town!

Trans Advance has, the last 10 years, undergone two huge chances, as well as a few minor ones. One of the minor (yet large) was the extension of the TACSI to Cheeningham, a city which has seen massive urban development since the 1960s.

One of the major changes is the electric overhead wires that has been built all over the Trans Advance network. In addition to this, old stock has been replaced by newer, more modern EE Deltic diesel trains and the EE AL6 electric trains. They both run at the impressive speed of 160kph. In addition to this, some old steamers have been replaced with "Sulzer Type 2" diesel train. This is a slower diesel, running "only" 144kph tops.

The other major change is the introduction of an airline. It's flying from Cheeningham to Penbridge, the two busiest cities in-game. Seen below is the extension of Cheeningham, where the regular train service connects to TACSI and to the airport, as well as mail trucks serving local cities with international mail.

May I add that Trans Advance, and TACSI, was struck by the first major accident over it's 30-year long existance? Some 188 people died here, a black day in transporting. October 14th 1977 was the day and it was published in the news the day after. Seen here is also the very temporary new rails built in only two weeks time!

For the third picture of the day; when funds are there, nobody gives a bloody damn about some water, eh? Before and After of the rebuilding of Dundon Station (notice that we kept the station house *proud*)

The screenie with the airport is particularly innovate construction of stations - the city surrounds them, and this makes it look far nicer than a station stuck on an airport on the edge of a town. Very nice work as always Chrill :))

I like the way you retained the station building in the latest shot.

Please keep entering your shots for the screenshot competition, I like them just when you only have 1 vote...
Here is a tip for next time, try and make your screenshot "busy" and this doesn't necessarily mean make it as big as possible. A cropped image with say, a couple of trains, can be more interesting than a huge one with no trains (as was the case of your last one). Hope you take this criticism constructively.

In the mean time, happy TTing! :D

Aye I like the one with the big stations too, except the fact that the airport is precariously close to the city centre, some tricky landings there I'd say.

That's the reason why Trans Advance only employs former fighter pilots...

TA 158 - TA 158 ready for take off
Tower - TA 158, clear for take off. Take care of the guys in the Media Building, they have an executive meeting on the top floor. Early left turn please.
TA 158 - clear for take off, and don't scare the big guys, understood, TA 158 rolling...

My savegame got killed by the UK trainset messing up when I turned the AM2s into AM10s, making them always enter depot and never leaving (even when the AM10s were replaced by another train). Because of this, I will probably not post any pictures until I get around to setting up a new game

That's why you always make a new file every time you save! I never overwrite old ones these days. Pitty though.

I thought I was the only one who was that paranoid!

I go through and delete all the old savegames when I "finish" a game ;)
