What version of OTTD were you using and what did you do to trigger that crash?

I downloaded openttd-0.3.1.exe and as far as I can remember I just started the game, and I got an error message with this crash log. I didn't see anything from the game, no start screen.

Do you always get this error? Or just once? And what Windows version are you using?

So you weren't able to run OpenTTD at all so far, did I understand that correct? Did you use the installer and are all files in the correct folder? (*.grf and sample.cat in /data and english.lng in /lang.)

hey, I've got the same problem and I'm also using Windows 98 SE.
Could it be that OpenTTD and Win98SE don't like each other?

I don't know about OTTD, but Win98 doesn't like anything.

I'm running OpenTTD on Win98SE with no problems. So I think it's a problem with drivers. DirectX or sound drivers for instance.
At first OpenTTD crashed here too but when I upgraded DirectX everything worked fine.

Now I've downloaded openttd-0.3.2.1.exe, and I installed it (with copying the TTD's files) and I get the same error.
Since previous post I've another (newer) graphics card. What can I do to get OpenTTD working?
BTW: I hear some noise from my speakers.

Have you tried upgrading DirectX (9)? Have you tried the latest nightly build?

No, where can I download it?

No, but what's different on nightly build?

It is better
. And it is also more responsive with errors, so you might get some hints from that.

I installed DirectX and I extracted the nightly build in the ottd directory (I overwrited all files), but I still get the same error.
What to do now?

In order to track such bugs better, perhaps the nightly builds should also come in a Debug version.

I think thats what the assertations are for. You can run OTTD in debug mode by passing the -d switch and then a debug mode. I am not sure what debug modes there are though and apart from in the source I haven't seen it anywhere.

DirectMusic driver: AddPort failed!
That looks like the music or sound is not working for you. Did you try to run this:
ttd -s null -m null
That'll disable sound and music for you. And what output do you get "with ttd -h"?

Nightly builds are built as a Release version, with assertions still active. You will not get debugging information, but the game will "crash" even on the slightest error.
