So, I started to learn to make building graphics for the game.
I chose the Big Ben for my first attempt as it should demonstrate fairly quickly where my understanding is lacking and I also want to make more sandstone buildings later on.
I used the 6th image from http://foundtheworld.com/big-ben-london/ for my reference (it is actually fairly high resolution image if you open it separately).
My issue with it, beside some perspective errors, is that it feels flat to me and as there are so many small details, I am having difficulty to find the right interpretation for them.
I could also not get the cornice right and I am not sure about the height/width ratio.
So perhaps somebody with more experience can give me some guidance.

Re: Help needed with Big Ben
Good start. First I would make it a lot narrower and then would go from there. That said if You want to go so that it fit into game size wise You probably must throw away some detail work as You just always cant fit all in there. Not always so, but hope You get the point

It needs to be a bit darker too, I believe. Also, plan ahead if you want it to fit in 1x1 or 2x2 in-game.

Turnpike Falls (Latest Release: Version 0.91)

Re: Help needed with Big Ben
FIRS textile mill sprites are based on a building that is sandstone IRL, if that helps.
Also found an older version, so you can see what I was doing wrong.
I changed palette, and simplified the detail a lot. It's a matter of taste, but I much prefer the reduced detail.
