Couldn't you start a 'cook-book' wiki somewhere, so that knowledge and experience can be shared by many?WhiteHand wrote:...I'm probably the most skilled non-dev for the job.

Please add me to it as well, that way we can cover several TZ'sWhiteHand wrote:Could the maintainers add me to a list of "Coding Consultants" who can be PM'd with questions regarding the coding of GRFs through GRFMaker. It would save A LOT of the small threads started in the graphics section, and I'm probably the most skilled non-dev for the job. Cheers.

Always willing to help.
WhiteHand, you and I should get together and discuss doing a proper GRFMaker Guide

We could possibly do that. I've got plenty of time.

Re: GRF encoder tool: GRFMaker [under development]
Ok...All of you who have allergy against very noobish questions, don't look
--noobish part started--
I read this topic from the middle (post dates with 2007
). I found a link to svn repository. However I'm completely n00b when the question is compiling on win. And I'm not going to learn it too I'm afraid (believe me, I've tried). So can someone provide windows executables? (As I understand it won't work on linux
). Please?
--noobish part ended--
Thanks in advance, Lord
EDIT: And is the manual being completely rewritten? If so, maybe it would be better to be out into html..Especially for the pictures, that are stretched in doc versions. (And partly because I for one don't like proprietary formats
)

But... where can I download this tool? I PMed Szappy, I have already looked throuth the topik, and theris no any link to download tool. I understood, that source codes may be helpful too (if to use in correct programs), but the are not working...
What I need to do in such situation?????

Re: GRF encoder tool: GRFMaker [under development]
For the moment the only 'official' download is the source files at the svn repository. These must be compiled into an exe file, for example with the free Turbo Delphi Explorer from CodeGear (previously Borland). Links can be found earlier in this thread.
There isn't much happening around GRFMaker for the moment, the feedback has been very close to zero, and both Belugas and I have many other (more important, at least in our respective views) things on our plates. AFAIK, no-one else has expressed interest (combined with availability and the needed knowledge) in development of GRFMaker, and two (three?) developers isn't enough for critical mass...

You ssay that project is "staing", yes?

If we knew what "staing" is, then we might be able to answer your question.VoroninY wrote:You ssay that project is "staing", yes?
Re: GRF encoder tool: GRFMaker [under development]
hi all. This looks like a very useful tool. I'm currently working on a belgian trainset, is it possible to use a version of grfmaker for that?
thanx,
Pavo

Yes indeed it is. You'll need to PM or email Szappy for a copy of it i believe.Pavo wrote:hi all. This looks like a very useful tool. I'm currently working on a belgian trainset, is it possible to use a version of grfmaker for that?

Re: GRF encoder tool: GRFMaker [under development]
Actually, this is silly. The code has been open since August, but the executable still isn't published anywhere...
I've decided to fix this: I've just compiled the original sources given to me by GL2, and uploaded them to my tt-forums space. Anyone who wants to try it is now free to do so. Beware, however, that there are some bugs lurking around here and there.
I guess the best solution would be releasing the binary compiled from the current SVN version. A half-fixed version is still better than the original, after all. I'm not the one who should decide that, however, that's why I've used the original sources for the binary.

... perhaps mention too that the EXE presents all its menus etc in a language other than English, unfortunately I couldn't even begin to guess what all the menu options meant ... the price of only speaking English (and um, Pascal) I suppose.
Re: GRF encoder tool: GRFMaker [under development]
That's strange. Without its settings file, GRFMaker defaults to English for me. You must manually change it to get Hungarian texts. If you see the UI in a language you can't understand, you can press the Settings button on the toolbar (4th from left in the first row, the icon has check marks in it) and select another language. Alternatively, you can delete the settings file, GRF.SET, and make GRFMaker return to defaults.

Csaboka, thousand thanks for compiling
I just used tt-forums bandwidth on your userspace
Orr something like that.. The program seems simple and useful
Thank you again for compiling it and to coders who developed it and to coders that are now improving it

Re: GRF encoder tool: GRFMaker [under development]
Could the new version of GRFMaker (not the source, but the executable) *please* be released? New people are interested in helping with the Dutch Trainset but that file doesn't work with the old v3.03B GRFMaker. They need v3.03Beta_OS, but can't obtain it anywhere. Please.

Don't be so demanding. Perhaps you could learn to read, and find the link quite easily yourself, like the rest of us did?
