Depot graphics

Post by SHADOW-XIII »

Hey, I wonder if there is anybody who could try made diffirent depots, especially for trains
I cannot draw, if I could I would try myself but maybe anyone in the forum can

If you look closely at latest Michael Blunck screenshots you will notice beautiful stations/waypoints graphic but also notice that depot is ugly comparing to them, big and poor
maybe anyone could try makeig new graphic, maybe someway connected to real rail buildings (was called "round...smth...")

is there anyone who could try made new one ? maybe also for other vehicles ?
(if not I will ask MB about depots)

ok .. let's look at this SimCity 4 building, hope it helps ... but you have to remember that trains in TTD always go out from depot the same way

Why is everybody posting pics or roundhouses ? I mean, if there's any type of depot you could not make in ttd, it's roundhouses

How you can make a roundhouse at one square?

You'll need a simple depotbuilding.

You could make a sort-of roundhouse by making the depot be, not square, but angled, so as to fit in one square but to "appear" to have more than one stall.

Where do you get that roundhouse in SC4, and what does it do? I've not seen it.

Rectangular houses would look better. Especially if you could build a few (useless) depots to imitate size (i.e. 2 of them next to each other and 2 behind each other to look longer)

Here is a rectangular one:

If you made a new depot graphic that filled the entire tile, rather than having a grass border, the player could 'fake' bigger depots by building several in a line (either long or wide) that would appear to be connected.

Actually, I was talking to Michael about this, and it seems that it could be done rather easily (compared with other things ;)). From what I understand, when using the three types of track (rails, e-mails and monorail), the following is true:

E-Rails are a seperate type of rail, that just happens to look similar to normal rails, and allows trains from normal rails to run on them (which holds true under the rail, mono, maglev system, apart from the train sharing), and thus act like the monorail for construction purposes.

That said, they also have their own graphics, as we all know that they are not an upgrade from normal rails.

So, it stands to logic that the depots will work in the same way: There is a seperate depot for the rails, the e-rails and the monorail, the only thing being that the rails depot and the e-rails depot share the same graphics.

Therefore, it should be possible to change the graphics of the e-rails depot into something more modern, perhaps something that looks like a diesel maintenence shed. Whilst it would not be possible to make it bigger in size, it would look a bit better from a aesthetic point of view.
