Not knowing anything about what Z's models are technically like, I would hazard a guess it would require at least completely overhauling the lighting in the models. That way the set would "pop" like the stuff you see in SimCity 4 at night, for instance.

Buildings need interior lighting, street lamps need to cast light, vehicles need lighting, water can't glitter like during daytime... so you can't just reduce ambient lighting and call it a night set.

There is very little post-processing, so technically it could be done fairly "easily". Unfortunately "easily" also involves re-rendering several tens of thousands of images so it is not something I am too keen on doing myself :)

There are some weird artifacts when modifying a scenario with zBase (as on Bananas) with trunk (r24673). I don't see it with OpenGFX as a base set.

Other than that, sign and trees in the toolbar aren't drawn yet :)

The artifacts are due to the issues described in this bug report: http://bugs.openttd.org/task/5315 It remains to be seen if trunk will be changed to solve this or if I will have to remake all the ground tiles.

As for the GUI I know there are some sprites missing :) I just need more time! If anyone wants to help with GUI elements that would be great.

I would recommend to revert the toolbar icons to the default size and make the big icons part of your newgrf biggui

I disagree :?

I know I'm not using the most used resolution (1080p), but now days people use at least 1024/768, where the GUI is way to small for the resolution.

Before 1080p, I was playing at 1280/1024 and even at that resolution the GUI was small and I even had to increase the size of text so it wouldn't hurt my eyes after a couple of hours of playing.

If I remember correctly, in the beginning of TT and TTD the resolution was 640/480 where it did look good, but now I don't think so.

It totally should use the normal GUI size and leave changing GUI size to specific NewGRFs or - preferentially - to a yet-to-be-written method within OpenTTD itself (i.e. something like a user-setting for the zoom level of the GUI elements. Alongside with GUI control over font and font sizes). Supplying totally different GUI sprites still breaks (some) things and makes the set unsuitable for people with small screens (or windows) - which is a pity.

From that perspective, yep you're right :)

But I'll be honest, " to a yet-to-be-written method within OpenTTD itself", scares me. I seems something that will just be debated with pros and cons and never leave the theory :(

The big toolbar does simply not match the rest of the gui, there is still work to do to get the bigger gui which indeed would be very nice. So keep it a kind of prototype in the newgrf.

The non gui graphics are 100% done, excluding a few bugs. The gui graphics are barely started...

It might be a good idea to split the gui to a separate dev grf, purely for tidiness.

Hi Zephyris,
First of all I love your work.
OpenTTD in 32bpp is AWESOME
But now I wannt to know something.

Do you plan to make 32bpp Textures for your eGRVTS v2 Mod in near future.
Its really wierd to play everything in 32bpp and only the Road Vehicles are 8bpp.

And as you said
The non gui graphics are 100% done, excluding a few bugs. The gui graphics are barely started...
So for me the GUI is with the BigGUI v2 mod really good and if the Textures are finished this would be very nice if you could do that.

eGRVTS v2 is the only good GRF for tram and road vehicle and I love this so much. There is only this one thing missing.

I tried to play GRVTS v1 with 32bpp but for me it doesn't work I dont know why. ?(

Hope you'll answer

I would love to but it would be a massive job. There are more images in eGRVTS2 than the the entire of zBase! Hopefully one day.

Hmm, strange. I will check it out.

*edit* Just tested it out in a recent nightly and it all works ok. Which version of OpenTTD are you using?

ATM I play with version 1.2.2
Do I have to use the nightly to play it in 32bpp?

Any version from 1.2.0 or later will do the job, your version is fine.

I'm using 1.2.3, tried it with a recent nightly and when I go to add it, and close the options window, the game crashes...

Re: zBase (32bpp base set by Zephyris)

Just wanted to thank you, Zephyris, for your amazing work on this highly polished and consistent set, your hours of work on it have turned out great and open TTD looks so beautiful without being pixelated all the time. :)

It should "just work", crashes must be a bug in OpenTTD really....

Not quite sure whether this is me, OpenTTDCoop or zBase, but I keep getting this whenever I try to do a hg clone (just as it says in the readme)

Code: Select all

hg clone http://hg.openttdcoop.org/zbase
destination directory: zbase
requesting all changes
adding changesets
adding manifests
adding file changes
transaction abort!
rollback completed
abort: stream ended unexpectedly (got 181 bytes, expected 1724)
Often with different numbers for both of them. Usually takes a few hours appearing to stick at 'adding file changes' before it gives up and does the rest, leaving me with... well, nothing.

Have you tried pulling before? When I was first setting up access to the repo I had a few problems with the file size...
