FreeType reported Error 0x1 (arial font)
Pressing ok or cancel just gives this error message again. What should I do?
I have vista 64bit os and I tried to reinstall without any results.
p.s: I tried to find similar error report from this forum but didn't succeed...

Re: Error
Start OpenTTD from command line, using the -d freetype=1 parameter. Hopefully that gives a more sensible indication about what's wrong.

Re: Error
Could you please make the topic title more useful. It will help other people with similar problems.
Re: FreeType reported Error 0x1 (arial font)
If you click OK everytime you can play (similar to -dfreetype1 )
Did you specify "arial" for *_font in openttd.cfg ? What happens if you specify a font you are sure you have on your system in openttd.cfg ?

Re: FreeType reported Error 0x1 (arial font)
Hello there,
I have the same problem.
Windows XP SP2 32-bit
OpenTTD 0.7.0
To change the fonts of Openttd that are too small on my computer, I tried this topic :
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php? ... hilit=font
So, I edited the "openttd.cfg" file located in my "$mydocuments$\OpenTTD\" directory like this :
small_font =
medium_font = tahomabold
large_font = tahomabold
small_size = 8
medium_size = 11
large_size = 16
(I downloaded that font from the link given in that topic and put it in the "c:\windows\fonts" directory)
When I stard OpenTTD with this parameter, I have these messages :
Unable to use 'tahomabold' for medium font, FreeType reported error 0x1, using sprite font instead".
Unable to use 'tahomabold' for large font, FreeType reported error 0x1, using sprite font instead".
When I click on OK or Cancel, the game starts normally.
I have these messages with many font specified in the *_font line, even if this font (TTF) exists in the "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts directory" : arialbd, times, bookos, etc.
I have no messages when no font is specified or when I put "arial" in the *_font line.
* Are there compatible and non compatible fonts for OpenTTD ?
* Is there a better way to restore the font aspects of OpenTTD 0.6.1 in OpenTTD 0.7.0 ?

Re: FreeType reported Error 0x1 (arial font)
What happens if you try Tahoma Bold, as that's the name used in the Windows registry and I bet FreeType gets the font names from there as well. At least I get it working if I specify that.
For the ones interested: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts

OK, it works perfectly with that syntax (based on the registery key, not the file name of the font).What happens if you try Tahoma Bold, as that's the name used in the Windows registry and I bet FreeType gets the font names from there as well. At least I get it working if I specify that.

Thanks a lot.
(so I guess my problem is slignhtly different from Jakeke's... sorry for the digression)

Re: FreeType reported Error 0x1 (arial font)
I have same problem.
It caused by non-English font name is set default internally.
Manully set font names in configuration file, no errors are raised.
