Problem Running Nightly Builds on Mac OSX 10.5

Post by andysine »

I've been playing OTTD on my mac for a couple of years now, and since the upgrade (a few months back now) to Mac OSX 10.5 I haven't been able to use any of the nightly builds. The trunk versions work just fine, as did the nightly builds under 10.4.11. I have tried downloading several versions and even the latest one (r13314) doesn't work. When I run the unix executable in the package, terminal returns the code -

Code: Select all

...Games/OTTD-macosx-nightly-r13314/OpenTTD.app/Contents/MacOS/openttd: cannot execute binary file
logout

[Process completed]

Just wondered if this was a known bug?

I really want to try out YAPP, which at the moment isn't available in the trunk.

Regards,

Andy

It's a known issue but so far unknown how to solve it; and it isn't as easy as installing OSX 10.5 because the computer that compiles the nightlies isn't a Mac.

Okay, thanks for the reply anyway.

I really enjoy playing OTTD, and you great people make it really worthwhile with all the new features. Can't wait for YAPP or the day length patch to make it into the trunk.

Keep up the solid work.

Are you running on native Leopard or virtualization with Parallels/VMWare Fusion? Would it work with virtualization?

I'm running native with Leopard. Haven't got virtualization software at the moment, as I haven't any need.

Could you play with Roest's Patchpack?

If its got YAPP, that'd be awesome - but is there a Mac OSX build?

[EDIT] If there isn't a Mac OSX build of Roest's Patchpack, would anyone be able to compile a Mac OSX build with YAPP and Daylength patch?

Need to ask this, where can I get the MAC version of the original TTD?

Umm, there isn't one. TTD was written in x86 assembler, after all... You can use the data files from either the DOS or Windows versions of TTD with OpenTTD on any operating system, though.

Actually there is a mac version of Transport Tycoon but not of the deluxe version. The game was ported to mac (this was pre OSX days) in England and hence they made an English version. They then got it translated to Japanese and it was sold in Japan only while the English version never reached the stores. OpenTTD will NOT work with the data files from this version.

As for the original problem then you can solve it by compiling yourself. It's not that tricky. All you have to do is to follow the instructions on the wiki http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/Compiling_on_Mac

I have the same problem. What you can do is compile the nightlies yourself, then they run just fine. Another thing that works for me is running the nightlies under Rosetta (check the appropriate box in the OpenTTD.app information window.) Scrolling is a little slow, but otherwise it's alright.

Running OpenTTD in Rosetta isn't supported. Last time it was tested it caused crashes.
Luckily compiling under 10.5 isn't tricky and since it only affect intel binaries, all the affected computers are able to compile within a few minutes. It's still far worse than if the nightly build just worked though :|

Tried it with Toni's way, can't do it either. Toni's way is under the Roest patchpack thread, Page 6. Any kind soul good enough to patch one with YAPP, Distant-join-stations and Daylength. Tiberius managed to create suitable patches for all these 3. For the same r13374, I think.

http://devs.openttd.org/~bjarni/openttd ... n-yapp.dmg (universal)
This is compiled based on Tiberius' 3 diff files but somehow some debug code for YAPP didn't apply and I just ignored it. The diff for this is included in the dmg.
Since I didn't code (nor read) the diff files included in this binary I will not support it and you use it at your own risk.

Next time somebody asks for some compilation based on certain patches then it will be somewhat faster to make if the request includes links.

Thanks bjarni! Sorry, my bad for not including the links. What version of OTTD are you playing? I mean what patches are in your game?

I'm not a compiling service. I don't even have enough time for working on OpenTTD as it is so I don't need extra tasks.
