And finally, here is an alpha version of lawton's maglev trains. Feedback welcome!

Nice job putting them in, if you need any more work done for the maglev just let me know (pm will probably get my attention best), I've looked through the new set and I'm happy with how it's going, nice job, only one small issue, the only difference between the MLX01 and the MLX01-901 is the price!
The 901 should be slightly faster.

Keep up the good work  .

Oops. Okay, I will fix that. But will wait a bit to see if anything else comes up.

Excuse me, I've found a bug in the new train set. EF81, which is an electric locomotive, can run on non electric rails while electric rail is enabled ("disable electric rail" is off).

Here is the screenshot about this problem:

dandan,

I've just logged in to the server and it's already Maglev time... seems to be a few issues though:
  • Foundations on NW-SE are showing a chunk of monorail in them.
  • Maglev purchase sprites are wrong (note: I don't have 'dynamic_engines' set on the server, I will next game though.

FOr the second one, thats cause you need the "Enable Multiple new GRF Engine Sets" on in the advanced settings, as most grfs will screw up others if you don't have that on.

That statement in this generality is plainly wrong. You only need to enable this, if you want to have several vehicle sets of the same type (e.g. trains) in the same game. My guess is that these guys know what they do, not blindly activate concurrently all newgrf they can get their hands on and that the Japanese server has just one train set - the Japanese one.

yeah, there are train set and other sets that dont work with each other, especially the older sets like the spain and Czech set

Let's say I thought I did... The Japanese Train Set doesn't have many free (standard) IDs left, so for the maglev set I used IDs of trains that I thought were maybe not so important for gameplay, so that they could be overridden by maglevs if someone doesn't want to use "multiple engine sets" (or potentially for TTDPatch, where one could switch off electric rails to use both Shinkansen and Maglevs). Anyway, I didn't really test any of this and now there is this problem with the purchase menu. I'm not sure why it happens. I'll look into it. For the moment, I do recommend to switch on "multiple engine sets" for the maglev set. If I can't solve this, I will use extended IDs for the maglevs in OpenTTD.

The problem with the foundations I cannot reproduce. Steven, could you provide a savegame or describe exactly how this occurs?

BTW, I did post the Maglev GRF file on the public website as a test file, but if we're going to leave it there we really need to have a proper Readme to go with it. Ditto for the bridges.

Please jump on the Multiplayer server if you want to see it happening, I just attempted to swap the GRFs around (Bridges vs. Landscape) but to no avail. It seems to only be that single direction where the Monorail tile appears.

I'm not doing anything special to cause it, I simply started a new game (this time with dynamic_engines enabled to test the maglev issues) and this is still occurring when I build on slopes.

Bug report, Japanset Trains.
Shinkansen (and possibly narrow gauge tracks too, wasn't using them at the time) show temperate grass when used in Arctic.
This *may* be due to my loading a grf that altered the normal rail/electric rail into OTTD, but I set the Trains GRF to use normal tracks for rail/elrail, so I don't think it affected the Shinkansen too.

Narrow gauge tracks should be okay, but we do not have Shinkansen tracks for the arctic climate. But the Japanese Landscape set also works in arctic, with that you should be okay.

As far as I remember, arctic versions of those sprites have been produced for the Highspeed tracks grf (somewhere in the Spanish thread, I believe). You could try using those. Given permission, I might also add them at some point, or I will at least make the train set display a warning if it is used in arctic without Japanese landscape.

We don't have Shinkansen tracks for the Arctic climate? I thought we did - at least, that matched the special Japanese-color Arctic grass. We don't have any that match the default TTD arctic grass, it's true.

Sorry, that's my being ambiguous; I should have remembered to mention it.
I didn't have the Japan Landscape GRF loaded.
