Re: UK Bus Set
I have to agree with Laseandre and Ameecher, antialiasing is important, especially as we don't want flat looking buses, do we

Re: UK Bus Set
Apparantly, I am indeed the only person in the world who prefers:
0 x AA
Won't cry over having less than 15 FPS in a game
thinks that 30 FPS in CS:S in unplayable.
you guys need to start being real and realise we're playing a game from 1995, Anti-Aliasing was the bottom of everyones care list. We're here to carry on it's spirit, not filth it up with modern crap.
Proof AA is not needed:
<Jolteon> jonty-comp: IT NEEDS ANTI-ALIASING
<Jolteon> CAUSE EVERYONE IS STUCK UP IDIOTS
<Jolteon> WHO NEED 100% PERFECTINO
<+jonty-comp> TTD DOES NOT NEED ANTI ALIASING
<Jolteon> jonty-comp: EXACTLY
<+jonty-comp> WHAT IS THIS 32BPP s***
'nuff sed, good bye losers.

Re: UK Bus Set
Moron...
I gues he has never been told that anti aliasing is not only a checkbox you find in the settings of every recent game.
Dude! Time to wake up: anti aliasing means making the sprite blend more in the game, by using different shades, the the sprite does not look like it's been glued on the top of others. Keep the bus like this, you'll see it looks bad in game.

Re: UK Bus Set
Quick re-do of the Optare, so it's now in Free Town Bus colors, based off: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ds-ftb.jpg
http://files.uploadffs.com/7/9a407486/O ... ecoach.PNG
I over-did the dirty roof effect, i'll re-do that bit later. This is my first ever attempt at doing anything like this, so it's crap, etc. I don't care, go talk to the care cup.
EDIT: Just realised there is a bit too much red on the side of the front window too, I'll re-do that too.

Re: UK Bus Set
I take anti-aliasing the mean the edges, and smoothing for inside the sprite. Anti-aliasing is a bit of a misnomer as you don't normally do it manually. But enough of the arguments, the artists can draw however they like and the success of the set will show whether or not they're doing it right!
In other news, I seem to be the coder for this set.

A (very) quick retouch to show what anti-aliasing and a bit more subdued colors can do for a sprite:

Re: UK Bus Set
...clearly I am the only person who prefers sharp stuff.
Anyway, i'm working on fixing my ridiculous dirty roof. Even in Huddersfield we clean our buses fairly regularly. I believe in my image, the top middle image has the best looking "dirty roof" effect. So I will try emulating that on the others. Also remember I AM using paint, and not installing anything else, this 10GB HDD is already full, sorry.

The changes I did to the sprite were made by plain pixel-pushing - no advanced tools at all.Jolteon wrote:Also remember I AM using paint, and not installing anything else,

Re: UK Bus Set
Apologies, I haven't been following this thread and am just catching up; nice graphic, but you might want to have a look at the anti-aliasing - it looks like some others have mentioned it. Simon Foster's original TTD graphics are mostly anti-aliased, and it will fit better with the rest of the game world.Jolteon wrote:Quick re-do of the Optare, so it's now in Free Town Bus colors, based off:

The anti-aliasing works by reducing the contrast between zones of colour. This helps eliminate 'jaggies' or the Lego (TM) brick effect. Some people don't call it anti-aliasing, they just draw that way naturally; some of us had to learn it. This kind of anti-aliasing has nothing to do with what modern graphics cards are doing when they render a 3D scene.
cheers,
Andy

Re: UK Bus Set
If anyone requires a hand, then I'm free...
EDIT: OK, so first things first, the Alexander-bodied Mercedes is known as a 709D and is a very common feature on roads today. I know for a fact these were a mainstay of the Stagecoach fleet in Inverness and Aberdeen and were often used for country runs, despite the fact they only max to about 50mph...
Anyway, enough talking, I reserve the Stagecoach version of the 709D (old and new styles) for now.
Oh, and my stuff will be anti-aliased...

Re: UK Bus Set
Would an 814D with Plaxton do? http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key= ... eM3hJg4vaA lists all buses needed, and we're ready for an 814D with Plaxton body...

Re: UK Bus Set
Well, you could have the Alexander first from say about 1986 to 1998, and then have the newer looking Plaxtons afterwards? You seem to have a lot more Leylands than are necessary?
Re: UK Bus Set
Blame Eoin for that.
We can get rid of the Leyland Royal Tiger and also the Volvo Alexander ALX400 I think.
Go to #ukbus on IRC to discuss.

Hehe, forgot he's a bit Leyland nuts...LaSeandre wrote:Blame Eoin for that.

709D progressing well, although on using the Optare as a base, I have found its dimensions are oddly shaped.
Bah, just noticed, ignore the door on the \ view...

Re: UK Bus Set
Re-done my Free Town Bus Optare Solo, the cleaner now looks like he actually does clean it to some extent, and doesn't just let the roof rot.

Re: UK Bus Set
I had these from...something.
As a note, the blue and green on teh bus are...company colours. I can easily repaint those to whatever, this is just a starting point..
