What was the map size? Map height? I remember in older versions of OpenTTD it had a lower maximum map size than TerraGenesis but today it seems to have the same size options. Does anyone understand the specifics of it?

The map size in TTO and TTD is always 255x255, the max altitude is 15 (0 is sea level).
