JohnFister's Objects

Hello everyone,

I've been learning to make openttd graphics for the past week. I finally made a breakthrough and have a better understanding.
Anyway, so I don't have a plan for a set. Instead I though I would make this thread to post some of my graphics.

Here are some 2x1- 1x2 UK based Multi-Select high-street stores. The scale is off to accommodate the text but I think it still looks ok. I also added some
zebra crossings. Neither currently have snow versions. I'll get round to this at some point.

I should also mention that I stole some small graphics from GarryG. Please don't hurt me Garry :P

Those shops and crossing look really good .. well done.

You welcome to steal any of my graphics .. if ever you want the code to a certain graphic and the .png file let me know.

Cheers Garry, will be sure to nag you if I have any problems. I'm pretty good for the most part. I used some source-code from some templates
and played around with them.

One thing I would like is incrementing indexes for the template, rather than the randomiser for multi-select. This would mean you wouldn't have to spam click
for a particular combination. This doesn't seem to exist - at least from the sets I have seen.

That is a problem others have mentioned in past as well. If your set not going to be large (allowed 255 in a set), don't worry to much about making them multi-select.

Only reason I started using Multi-select Menus is to save room in a set as they got so large and ran out of IDs. Being restricted to 255 objects can soon fill up. The Multi-select menu saved on a lot of IDs.

Past few weeks been wondering .. with OpenTTD 10.3, JGRs OpenTTD and the nightlies will allow a lot more newgrfs in a game now. (before was restricted to I think 64). Wondering if to split some of my objects sets instead of squeezing so much in them and stop using the multi-selects menus where possible.

I tested you shops .. as fridaemon said .. good work.

Thank you :D

Yeh I liked the idea of adding discontinued stores and bordering them up, hence the shutters - could look a little more decrepit.

Your GRF isn't showing up in my GRF list?

If I assume you've put the file in the right place, then it probably uses a GRFID already used by another NewGRF, in which case it should be changed to not cause a conflict :)

I'll be sure to fix this when I next update it. Im very new at this so creating a unique ID is a little beyond me. :)

In the NewGRF settings is it showing up in the "Inactive NewGRF File" list? It should display as "UK: Objects", even if it has same GRFID as other files.

Nope, just ran through my GRF list (I have a rather large collection ;-) ) and the range of GRF-IDs you use (so also your separators) is unique (starting with 4A4C).
The only thing I can think of is to check if Gadg8eer's OpenTTD version is up-to-date, as this GRF has 32bpp colors.

Here's a preview of my progress. I have been experimenting quite a lot with these changes I've made. This means I have spent more time coding than I would have liked.
The buildings come in two - four view items; a start and end piece which allows you to put four buildings together. Each building has the same twelve shops (6 each side) -
One has the option between flat and gable the other flat and dormer. :D

Changes Include:
  • Added two more shops - (won't be adding anymore :().
  • Added three single tile objects avaiable as crossing and soon single objects.
  • Removed Swedish market as that was just a placeholder for my own objects.
  • Added new building end piece to create row of 4.
  • Added two new roofs.
