The OpenTTD 1.10.0 Title Screen Competition

Hello everyone, and welcome to the 1.10.0 title screen competition! This is the savegame which plays behind the main menu of OpenTTD.

Voting has closed, and ALEXbr is our winner! Congratulations!

ENTRIES

There were 9 entries, each of which have screenshots in three screen resolutions (1024*768, 1600*900, and 2560*1440) and three base graphics sets (OpenGFX, aBase, and Original OpenTTD), for a total of 81 images. Please click on the [+] Spoiler tag below each name to display each entry.

If you'd like to see an entry in your game, feel free to download the savegame from the submission post below and replace opntitle.dat in your game directory (you'll need a 1.10.0 beta or RC version, they won't load on anything earlier).

RULES

I have volunteered to organize this year's competition after speaking with kamnet and andythenorth. The rules for the competition are as follows:

SCHEDULE
  • Submission deadline: Saturday, March 21, 2020, at 23:59:00 UTC.
  • Voting opens: Sunday, March 22, 2020
  • Voting closes: Saturday, March 28, 2020, at 23:59:00 UTC

ENTRY AND VOTING

All entries will be posted to this topic, and should be attached to the post both as a savegame and a screenshot (800*600 pixels max). You may change your entry at any time, but only one entry will be accepted by the close of entries. If updating, please post a new entry and either delete the old entry or PM a moderator to have it removed. Upon the close of entries, photos will be added to this post a Wiki topic will be published with all games showing OpenGFX, aBase, and TTD base graphics in multiple screen resolutions.

Since we won't have time for a runoff vote in case of a tie, andythenorth has agreed to refrain from voting unless needed to break a tie.

TITLE SCREEN GUIDELINES
  • Think of this as a first impression of the game. Nice looks and appealing to as many people as possible is more impressive than trying to build the biggest stations or most complex junctions.
  • A map size of either 128*128 or 256*256 with a file size of ~150KiB is acceptable. Smaller sizes do not provide enough space on larger screens, but larger sizes are going to be wasted and not seen on smaller screens.
  • Remember that the viewport for the title screen will start in the top-left corner, and expands down and to the right as screen sizes increase. Try placing your most interesting stuff near the top-left corner, but also think about expanding your title game to include larger screen sizes.
  • Show as many different features as possible, and show how they should be use. For example, show the difference between block signals and path-based signals, standard road stations and drive-through stations, multiple rail types, etc. Don't forget ships and aircraft!
  • One of the most visible changes (besides NRT RoadTypes, which doesn't change anything without compatible NewGRFs) in 1.10.0 is multiple docks per station, so consider showing this feature.
  • It should look nice in both OpenGFX and original TTD graphics. Also consider using other base graphics sets and environments to test how your game appears.
  • Breakdowns will automatically be disabled. Cheating for money is OK. Unprofitable companies are OK. Building with multiple companies is OK. Building the game in the Scenario Editor is OK.
  • Do not use AIs, GameScripts or NewGRFs. These are automatically disabled.
  • The game must be created in a clean, master branch version of OpenTTD or its official binaries. The game cannot be created in custom modified versions of OpenTTD or in popular patch packs such as JGR Patch Pack, LtJoker's Patch Pack, Reddit client, CityMania client, etc.
Feel free to check out last year’s contest for inspiration.

Good luck!

I aimed for something a little more subdued and quiet, and feel like I may have missed the mark a bit. My biggest regret is only just noticing the double-dock I placed, with complete disregard to usefulness, is completely obscured by the menu at 800x600. My second biggest regret is the amount of time I spent fixing Fradean's statue and fountain infestation each time I thought I was 'done'.
