Seaplanes

Basically you get a aquaport, which can only be built next to land, and is a small airport (no large airports at all) and can take three seaplanes, some (with wheels) can be built at normal airports. The docks and oil rigs would act like heliports, cos they won't have hangars.

What would be the advantage of those in the game? Besides that they would be nice to look at, of course. :D

fast(but low capacity) way to move oil, and to not demolish all those buildings when building an airport in a town. Also think of the new planes and groovy landings. :)

Cool. Would be low priority, but sounds like a good idea.

Amfibious but not on land... I mean

Heliport

Code: Select all

    |----|XX/-------------
        XXXX
/-------XX/
|

Airport

          XX/-------------
  #===> XXXX
/xxxxxxxXX/
|

I had to do it fasty

Upon reading that, that is just stupid.

Le'mme try again

Code: Select all

                                                ------ ------
                                                |    | |    |
                                                | ## | | ## |
                                                |    | |    |
                                                | ## | | ## |
                                          HHHH  |    | |    |

Better, but still nmot good.... I'll do it graphical later, i think...

You get what i mean?

We could also use a heli on skids

Sea planes don't need an airport. The idea is that they can use the docks

Define an airstrip on water and the plane will sail to the dock. That would be much better

Hmm I would imagine it to look a little different.

It would definately be great on scenario's like 2 Islands, where there is limited space and all four towns are near the sea :)

A seaplan lands on water. I think you can compare it to an boat, but a boat would stay in the water and an airplay goes up in the sky.

I don't think that just docks would be sufficent for seaplanes. You'd still need a tower and a depot for them. The "runway" could go perpendicular to the coast line, maybe five tiles long. This way two costal tiles could be enough for a "seaplane port" with two runways. I really start to like this idea, because they would also be efficent for passenger transport in sea-side towns.

And oil-rigs.

OT but;
speaking of dock, is there any plan of improving it ? the actual one is too poorly made. some objects like warehouses &co. should be on the background to form a whole port facility, even if only for eye-candy purpose.

This is what I think a seaport should be look like. After all it's supposed to be for small areas and most of the time you don't have long costal streches. Therefore this one uses just 3 costal tiles.

just an idea, but how about this way;

the seaplane has two states: on the water and in the air. it switches between two states by passing the "runway", defined on the water. so a seaplane has typically an order like "dock A --> runway A --> runway B --> dock B" (docks are shared with ships). but you can send it from a dock to another without putting it in the air if you like (ex. when two docks are really near).

this way allows you to send the seaplane into a small bay where there is no place to build a seaplane-port.

(hmm am i sufficiently clear ?)

if you ask me ... :

seaplanes:
- lands near docks at stops at one of the side of dock
- use water hangar or airport hangar for servicing
- no extra bouys/hangars at docks !!

I vote for dominik's sea-airport.
Altough both versions look a lot like a small airport, so implementing them will be a breeze :)
