[SOLVED] Importing the Graphics, Music, And Sound from TTD

Post by Captain Obvious »

Just to make sure (the wiki wasn't all that clear), I do these steps to import the original music, graphics, and sounds into OpenTTD:

1. Create a folder called "data" in the main OpenTTD folder

2. Copy the graphics files ( trg1r.grf, trgcr.grf, trghr.grf, trgir.grf, trgtr.grf) and sound file (sample.cat) into the newly created "data" folder.

3. Create a folder called "gm" in the main OpenTTD folder.

4. Copy the sound files (apparently, any file ending with a ".gm" extension) into the newly created "gm" folder.

It this correct? Thank you.

I would try the /baseset folder instead of /data. And if I read the readme correctly, you just copy all files there:
readme wrote:4.1.2) Original Transport Tycoon Deluxe graphics and sound files
------ ---------------------------------------------------------
If you want to play with the original Transport Tycoon Deluxe data files you
have to copy the data files from the CD-ROM into the baseset/ directory. It
does not matter whether you copy them from the DOS or Windows version of
Transport Tycoon Deluxe. The Windows install can optionally copy these files.
You need to copy the following files:
- sample.cat
- trg1r.grf or TRG1.GRF
- trgcr.grf or TRGC.GRF
- trghr.grf or TRGH.GRF
- trgir.grf or TRGI.GRF
- trgtr.grf or TRGT.GRF

4.1.3) Original Transport Tycoon Deluxe music
------ --------------------------------------
If you want the Transport Tycoon Deluxe music, copy the files from the gm/
folder
from the Windows version of Transport Tycoon Deluxe to the baseset
folder
in your OpenTTD folder (also explained in the following sections).
The music from the DOS version as well as the original Transport Tycoon does
not work.
So not to data or gm, just all to baseset.

What Transportman said.

Except for some older version (or compiled patches based on older versions) of OpenTTD, then it is data.
The readme that comes with the binary you downloaded should always have the correct info.

Could you please provide a link to the page where you found that info as it is outdated.
Someone (maybe even you as it is a wiki) can then correct it.

Finally you can put these file is your shared folder too so all versions of OpenTTD you have see them and you need not copy them all over the place.
On windows that would be "Documents/openttd" on linux "~/.openttd" (<- hidden by default).
-- .- -.-- / - .... . / ..-. --- .-. -.-. . / -... . / .-- .. - .... / -.-- --- ..- .-.-.-

Playing with my patchpack? Ask questions on usage and report bugs in the correct thread first, please.
All included patches have been modified and are no longer 100% original.

Sure, here are the wiki links:

http://wiki.openttd.org/Copying_GRF_to_data_folder

https://wiki.openttd.org/Installation_F ... D_files.3F

I'm not all that good at using the wiki editor, so maybe someone can fix this? Thanks. :)
